That happened down the road from where I work. Saw it on the news yesterday. Every year when it rains a lot they have mudslides in that area. First time in the 3 years I've lived here that it took out a train. Normally just shuts the rail line down for a few days until they get it cleaned up.

Thankfully it wasn't a passenger train that was derailed. Quite the mess to clean up.

I can just imagine the conductor, walking back thinking maybe they came uncoupled or blew out a brake hose. About the time he could see that...

Then he realized how lucky they were the engines made it by. I'm guessing the vibrations from the train were the final trigger causing the slide.

Interesting how he just happened to be right there at the exact moment and time of the slide.......me thinks Mother Nature had a helping hand.

The reason why he was there was because he worked for the engineering dept. at the railroad and was going to inspect the hill after they ran that train through. Well this time it bit them in the ***. They should have just shut it down.

I bet the vibration from the passing train had something to do with it too.

Report I heard was he was a longshoremen who just happened to be there, thought something seemed wrong (maybe a few stray rocks came down first?)

A railroad employee checking out the area makes more sense than a longshoreman.

Of course the news NEVER gets things wrong

Yep been there done that and I know in your time you have to but in the end you say damn this is going to be fun explain and atleast I didn't have to lug the 90 pound knuckle back there.

Haven't been in a slide accident but a disrepair incident that shut out mainline down and most profitable yard down for 2 weeks. Still have management gunning for me over that one can't even fart without someone bitching about it in management.
