Default Where to stay in Panama City Beach

Surprisingly enough, the wife and I have never been to Panama City Beach. Myrtle Beach yes, Daytona yes, various islands yes, but never Panama City Beach. Her birthday is the 3rd week of September so we were thinking about going there.

A scan of Trip Advisor, Orbitz, Hotel.com, and even AAA didn't help a bit. Reviews were all over the place. Even if a place got 4 stars or more, one review would say great and another would say terrible. After much frustration, the wife finally said "Go ask the Forum News Network...they know everything."

So...anyone been there and have a good recommendation?

30 miles west in Destin.

Panama City is seedy. They may have cleaned it up some but Destin is much nicer.

Not sure when you were in PCB last but there has been a lot of positive change since the 90's. PCB has numerous really nice new condos on the beach that are just as nice and in some cases nicer that what you find in Destin. The new Pier Park is booming with a large addition being built as we speak. PCB is definitely not the party dump it used to be.

OP, check out Sterling Beach if you like a nice, less crowded place to stay or Emerald Beach which is much larger, but has a lot of amenities. Both are very nice.

Sterling Beach Resort is a nice place on the East end of the beach and Emerald Beach Resort is a nice place on the West end of PCB. Personally, I would suggest West end of the beach. Either way, there are TONS of nice new condos to choose from all over PCB. Also, Pier Park is really nice. You may never get your wife away from there. Heck YOU may never want to leave either. You can check out an IMAX movie while your wife shops.

Oh, and if you like pizza. You HAVE to check out Joey's On The Beach on Thomas Dr by the Marriot exit. DAMN good pizza! If you're looking for seafood, check out Montego Bay for lunch, and Captain Andersons for dinner. And for steak, you have to hit up Angelo's Steak Pit. Best damn steak you will ever eat! All on the East end of the beach. All of the best food is on the East end and all of the best shopping is on the West end of the beach. Although, there are some really nice restaurants at Pier Park, which is on the West end.

We stayed in Seagrove off 30-A, but there it is most all houses that you rent by the week. That worked out well.

Most of the evening action is at Pier Park. So, you might want to stay at a place that's within walking distance to Pier Park.

Aqua is the nicest condo on the west end of PCB. It's within easy walking distance of Pier Park.

yep, USS Momsen DDG 92, a Flight IIa Arleigh Burke destroyer (I'm a plankowner on her) I can't remember what helo squadron we had onboard at the time, but they flew across the country to Maine and sailed on the ship through the Panama Canal up to Everett.

Thank you for your service Shipmate
Coolest Small Boy I got to sail on was the USS Normandy (CG-60) when I was attached to HSL-42.

Wherever you stay, I do recommend venturing out to Seaside, blue mountain, Destin etc.

All you need to know about the area

We just got back from Panama City last week, had a blast.....we stayed at the Palazzo:

http://palazzo-resort.panama-city-beach.com/

Had a corner room with the wrap around balcony on the 12th floor. 4 floors of Covered parking, nice work out room, clean beach. We stayed in a 3 room/3 bath condo with all the niceties.

I hope I don't ruin it and have all the CFOT scum flocking to the place!

About an hour East is Cape San Blas. A great place if you are looking for peace and quiet.

After MUCH research and talking to a lot of folks, I'm thinking this is the best bet.

It seems like almost everything in Panama City Beach is a crapshoot. For example, I talked to some folks who stayed at the Palazzo and they were surprised with a $115 cleaning fee when they tried to check out even though they left the place spotless. Several other people said they stayed at highly recommended places and had to move rooms around because one would be filthy and another would be OK.

At this point, we are giving serious consideration to Ft. Walton Beach, Destin, or Miramar Beach. Reviews I've seen and comments I've heard are much better than Panama City Beach.
