Default Help: Best Home Theater receiver under $1K?

I no longer have the time to keep up with home theater receivers like I used to, so I was hoping to get some help here in OT as to what is the best receiver for the money for under $1K?

My old receiver is a Yamaha, and the speakers I would like to continue to use are Klipsch towers up front and center, ceiling mounted surround in the back, and a powered sub.

I have all kinds of things I want to hook into it, PS4, Xbox one, Directv, PS3, etc.

Thank you for any help you can provide…

I actually have this receiver and it works great for what I need it to do.
I purchased it on august 17 2012 according to my amazon account and haven't had any issues.
It does not have 4k pass-through, only upconverting. So if you need this feature then you might have to look elsewhere.

I have the previous version of this model, the 808. Just got it back from repair for a faulty HDMI board. If it wasn't for such a wide spread rash of HDMI board failures in the Onkyo AVRs I would recommend them without hesitation. It is still an outstanding AVR though and hopefully the new ones like the 818 won't have the HDMI board failure that the units like mind did.

Marantz SR5008 or if you can go slightly over 1k, SR6008. I just put their big brother in and love it! The Onkyo's are nice, but they do seem to have a high failure rate. Denon also offers some in the same range as the Marantz, but they sound a bit different. Not worse, just different. Audition whatever you decide on and get the one that sounds the most natural to you.

Denon AVR-X3000 or X4000 (if you can find a deal on one).

Marantz products are excellent. I have a Marantz SR6005 and I love it. Nice thing about Marantz receivers is they come with a 3 year factory warranty (or they did when I bought mine). Also whatever receiver you get, Marantz or otherwise, make sure it comes with the Audyssey setup. It's basically a microphone you place in several parts of your room and then it equalizes your speaker outputs to optimize sound. It works.

Pioneer Elite are my preferred, although Marantz makes some good stuff.

Avoid Onkyo like a plague. High failure rates and are serious space heaters. I think Demon has gone down in quality lately.

I just bought the Denon x-1000 I don't need the power of the others nor 7.1. I really liked the reviews of Denon's X series, and they all have the audessey proccessing.

definitely check them out

Just picked up a Marantz SR 6008 to replace my HK that had no hdmi. Setup was super easy and sounds great.

My current and previous AVR were both Onkyos and I am pleased with its performance... if it were not for the faulty HDMI board that had to be replaced on both AVRs.

Wow - what a timely thread! just had the same debate this week after my 2007 vintage HK receiver glitched out.... And I'm currently sitting here setting up my new AVR as I type.

My debates

Denon AVR-X3000
HK AVR-3700
Onkyo TX-NR828

HEre's an awesome post comparing the features of the big names...

Seems like a wise choice... I ended up with a TX-NR828. I've had it about an hour, so I can't comment much yet other than the onscreen menus are really well laid out, but the software update takes forever!

FWIW - I'm a big fan of factory refurb units. Warranty, plus big price savings....

Onkyo refurbs on Amazon:
Amazon.com: Onkyo TX-NR828B Factory Refurbished 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black): Electronics Amazon.com: Onkyo TX-NR828B Factory Refurbished 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black): Electronics

HK refurbs here:
http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_br...d.asp?brand=HK

Denon refurbs here.
http://usa.denon.com/us/product/page...procat(denonna)

edit - seems like all the brands have quality complaints these days, I went with the extended warranty on this for the 1st time in my life I believe....
