Bridgestone RE-11's, far from a Miata tire. One of the most sticky street tires you can get, provided you drive them in warm weather.

I've never driven a Miata, but I had it's slightly larger faster cousin, the S2000.. I'd take a Corvette any day over a Miata (if they were the same year cars, and it was a C5+)

I regularly drive my C6, C2 and last-gen Miata. If you live for Vette style power, you'll never be happy with a Miata (unless you buy one of those LS3 transplants :-) ). But the Miata is so well balanced that it's simply the most fun-to-drive car out there, on road or on track.

Probably go with the Miata.

I compare it to buying a Kawasaki 250cc sportbike vs a BMW S1000RR. You can use more of the Kawasaki's performance on the street whereas you will always be fighting to control the power of the BMW.

There was a fella that used to be a member here named Joecoool...

I read here he often would run on the track... and was very competitive when he did in his little Miata.

I personally (if I had the coins) would get the Corvette. But I will say, the 4 times I piloted a Miata, it was a great ride, and very responsive... it didn't leap forward as my Corvette did, and not as quickly as my 300ZXturbo did either for that matter, but for the coins, the Miata is a nice sportscar in the truest form.

Miata's fit and finish and build quality > C-1 - C-7

But still a woman's car.

Miatas are only quick around the track when they're racing against other Miatas.

They look really small that's all.
Lots of space in them wheel wells.

1200 hp Corvette to Miata will not go well. You're welcome. Now, how about those pics?

Redcycle13 is a corvette man through & through owning many z06 vettes, road race and track vettes over the years. Recently a young girl ran a red light and hit us, totaling out his baby, a 1200HP c5 corvette he built from the ground up and, owned over 10 years. He likes power.
Now he's thinking about getting a 2016 Miata convertible. He's never owned a Miata or test drove one. If any of you guys have ever debated this decision, owned or track drove a Miata could you leave a comment on your personal experience. Also what you see as pros or cons or maybe which c5, c6, or c7 would be cheaper than a Miata. Thank you guys! I appreciate any feedback you have to offer!
If he really wants to spend time on track, Miatas are almost perfect for a roadcourse. I am sorry to say this but whereas they don't have the power of a corvette, put one on the track with lots of turns (Like Sebring Raceway in Sebring FL) and eventually the corvette will lose sight of the Miata. Use to see many spec miatas when I use to run track.

HP is fun but you cant put down too much HP in a turn (even with slicks you will have to feather the throttle in a high HP car and it will take a lot of time to find the perfect feather in each turn for maximum speed through the turn without breaking loose. Meanwhile a Miata goes through a turn like a hot knife goes through butter. Its a more agile car and the HP in a corvette doesn't matter because there are too many turns and the corvette's HP used in the straights wont be able compensate for that time lost to the Miata in all the turns.

People who think sounds crazy are people who have never run on track (roadcourse, not a drag strip). To keep up with the sight of a Miata in a corvette the driver has to be impeccable but in just a 5 lap race my money on a track like Sebring is on the Miata

spec miatas are built as full all out track cars and they aren't too costly. Another good track car is a Lotus elise. I drove a yellow one many many years ago and wow, other than the fact that it had no power steering, that car flew through turns

If I had money to throw away and I tracked twice a month I would definitely get a spec Miata. But if you only track once in awhile I don't know if it would be worth it. As a cool looking street car the Miata would not be my choice.
