Gonna drop almost 1000hp and think you'll be happy in a "Sports"car?

What adjectives would you use to sell that Miata on someone? Light? Nimble? Cause I'm thinking the extra HP would make any car feel light and nimble.

Buy back the total of the 1200hp Vette and build another. Move up to a C6 if need be.

[QUOTE=amm0bob;1592729456]There was a fella that used to be a member here named Joecoool...

I read here he often would run on the track... and was very competitive when he did in his little Miata.

He had a Sweet 74 Vert....a True BEAST

As others have said, a spec Miata would be a great way to get into road racing (on the track), without totally breaking the bank. Lower initial outlay for a suitable car, and lower ongoing costs for everything (tires, brakes, repairs, etc). But for normal road use, a Vette wins out, including the intangibles....

As a side comment, the new Miata looks pretty good, especially the front end.

Use to see many spec miatas when I use to run track.

HP is fun but you cant put down too much HP in a turn (even with slicks you will have to feather the throttle in a high HP car and it will take a lot of time to find the perfect feather in each turn for maximum speed through the turn without breaking loose. Meanwhile a Miata goes through a turn like a hot knife goes through butter. Its a more agile car and the HP in a corvette doesn't matter because there are too many turns and the corvette's HP used in the straights wont be able compensate for that time lost to the Miata in all the turns.

People who think sounds crazy are people who have never run on track (roadcourse, not a drag strip). To keep up with the sight of a Miata in a corvette the driver has to be impeccable but in just a 5 lap race my money on a track like Sebring is on the Miata

spec miatas are built as full all out track cars and they aren't too costly. Another good track car is a Lotus elise. I drove a yellow one many many years ago and wow, other than the fact that it had no power steering, that car flew through turns

If I had money to throw away and I tracked twice a month I would definitely get a spec Miata. But if you only track once in awhile I don't know if it would be worth it. As a cool looking street car the Miata would not be my choice.

You are correct, so for just a track car yes they are good to have, I seen vettes with too much HP for the track and a skilled driver in a spec Miata will out run the vette in that environment. But this also sounds like a street car as well.

Horsesh**. Miatas cannot corner with a Corvette.

Here are the figure eight times from MotorTrend.

C7Z06 = 22.3

C6Z07= 22.8

C6ZR1 = 23.0

C6GS = 23.7

C7vert = 23.8

Mazda MX5 = 25.2

Data from Edmunds:

6 x 100ft slalom speed:

C7Z51 = 72.8mph

MX-5 = 68.5mph

200ft skidpad lateral G:

C7Z51 = 1.08g

MX-5 = .93g

I've been on one track that I can find Spec Miata times from. I didn't come close to reaching my potential and I still beat the Spec Miata track record by four seconds. If you can't keep up with Miatas in a modern Corvette, its not the car's fault. Its the nut behind the wheel.

My wife just traded her C6 (Atomic Orange Z51 3LT convertible) on a 2016 Miata. Top of the line, fully loaded model. She LOVES IT! I thought she was NUTS but she is in love with that car.

Even if the Miata could corner faster, it would get absolutely decimated in the long straights at Sebring.

Going into a corner, a big and heavy car is still a big and heavy car no matter how much HP it makes

I'm guessing many of the responses here are from people who live in areas where the only "corners" are grid blocks of 90░ corners rather than twisty back roads. Those people aren't going to "get" the sports car thing anyway. Besides that, many - if not most Corvette owners only seem to be interested in straight line performance - they aren't going to "get" the sports car thing either.

You think a sports car that cost 3-4x as much as a Miata and is actually a sports car not a Miata that isn't one should have better times?

I have a soft spot for Miata's I think they are neat roadsters. I would have to say depends thou. You gonna keep it stock or you gonna sandwich a 302 in there? If your modding it, the performance may be similar to the vette if done right.

Couldn't say about the suspension, but with enough cash you can get it to handle as good as a vette could, maybe better. Which goes to say maybe it would be better money spent on another vette?

I know everyone knocks the c4's but my late 86 vette was a great driver. I would consider one again, I put the biggest cam I could put in it with stock runners and manifold, better exhaust and intake mods. It ran awesome till a chick hit me.

WAT?

Both Corvettes and Miatas are sports cars. Of course the Corvette should have better lap times and it does. So what? If I had to start over for a track toy right now I'd probably do so with a Miata myself. Only I would do so knowing full well its slower than a Corvette in every possible way and that includes cornering. There is more to having fun than just straight line speed or lap times. My post was for only one purpose; correct the BS that Miatas corner and lap faster.

I think that's a big part of it. She just says the Mazda is more fun to drive, especially since our highest speed limit is 35.
