I worked with a guy like that also.

What's a mess to one person is organized for another.

This.

I knew a guy back in the day, a really brilliant mind too.

His apt looked like this over every foot.

Stanford grad in Bio-chem.

Dude remembered everything and would let anyone take an inch regarding facts.

I remember a couple of college professors who's desks looked like that, they always knew exactly where something was, too.

I have a good friend whose desk approached that. Mine was always squared away. He's now a two star general and I'm not.

That isn't truly messy. He would benefit from a few more racks to stack the paperwork.

I worked with a guy whose work area looked like that or worse. I asked him to clean it up one day and he said he needed all of his files there handy in case he needed to look something up. I challenged him to find his notes on a project he had been involved in a year earlier. Damn if he didn't go right to it and pull them out.

If we gave him more space, he'd fill that up and it would look the same!

A couple of filing cabinets would help.

Yes I do. Engineers.

One recently passed away and it took 50 man hours to clean his office. Shredding and destroying everything.

Pissed everyone off.

I would need about 7 separate work stations this month, if things were to appear tidy. (usually only 3 would suffice, but I am a bit overbooked).

Had an Engineering Mgr working for me that had literally three cubicles stuffed. When we moved to a new building he was relegated to 1 cubicle.

He went through every pile piece by piece, inch by inch and it was almost painful and pitiful watching him do it.

I did let him take his archival documents, after his boss reviewed them, to his house for storage. I can't even imagine his house.......
