dmaxx is getting it - OUTSMART the rats.
1. Place Victor trap unset but baited w. PB. 3 days. Rebait.
2. Set the trap guaranteed rat ONCE.
3. You have all sorts of traps so rotate, keep them off balance,
like a football Offensive Coordinater.
4. Remember, they are smarter than you are.

The poison I use makes them very thirsty. They all die outside looking for water or on their way outside. We don't have any animals I care about that hang out down by the shop, so collateral damage is minimal.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned, but I tie a small loop of nylon string to the trip plate, then mix it in with the bait. Good luck!

I use every different type of trap I can find. Once a trap kills one the others avoid it. I've been having this problem for awhile with my bass boat. Peanut butter works great though.

I like the electric rat traps. I put the bait at the entrance of the trap with the power off. This is to get Mr/Mrs Rat comfortable with the trap and also it tells me a rat has found the trap. The electric traps have three plates, so after the bait at the entrance is eaten, I place the next dose of bait on the second plate with the power off, after the second plate bait is eaten, I place the bait on the third plate and turn on the power. Mr/Mrs Rat look like they are asleep. The electricity, 8000 volts causes a heart attack. You have to keep the plates very clean. Use a unscented detergent to clean them after each baiting sequence. I use a blob of peanut butter sprinkled with bacon bits....yummy.

I don't like to use snap traps in the house. They are too dangerous. I have used rat glue traps, but stopped after catching my wife, her daughter, and one of our house rabbits. An animal, or human, caught in a glue trap can be released immediately with vegetable oil.
