Fun First is our Motto!
The goal for this series is to have a semi-serious weekly race in iRacing focusing on having fun and growing the group. Overly aggressive actions and verbal abuse will not be tolerated. A warning may be issued requesting corrective action by anyone conducting themselves outside the intended spirit of the league of focusing on fun or that person may be removed from the league.

Rules:
We will utilize iRacing’s automated incident procedure for off track incidents that the iRacing service feels is deserving of a slow down or other black flag penalty. We do not currently plan to apply an incident limit to encourage new members to join the league. However other actions such as probation, point penalization or race and/or league disqualification may be assessed for incidents of course cutting, excessive use of running off track to gain an advantage, overly aggressive driving or other actions that are not following the spirit of Fun First. Overly aggressive or unsportsmanlike behavior may result in driver being blacklisted from future sessions.

Off tracks and spins:
If a driver runs off track or loses control while remaining on track it is that driver’s responsibility to re-join safely. Predictability is the key at all times - hold your brake so oncoming traffic can be sure of where you are and will be, then use the combination of the F3/Relative box and the look left/right buttons to make sure you are clear to resume or re-enter. Failure to safely rejoin will be subject to replay review and its potential resulting penalties.

Replay Review Program:
See post #6 for more information

Black Flags:
If you receive a black flag notice in practice and do not resolve it yourself by following the on screen instructions please request via chat or text message asking one of the Admins to clear your black flag when they have a chance. Be sure to tell them your car number to save them the trouble of looking you up. Please note this is only for practice as we cannot expect an admin to stop their qualifying or race session to clear your black flag. You are able to resolve most black flags yourself by following the on screen instructions such as slowing up for a few seconds to resolve a corner cutting penalty or by going into the pits for a stop and hold. There are other black flags that are instant disqualification such as going backwards on the track. If this happens by mistake in a practice session kindly request it be cleared by an admin. If it happens in a qualifying or race session or on purpose you are out of luck.

Chatting:
We have a ban on chatting during the first lap unless used to inform others of a spin. Anything other than a message such as “Spin in Turn 1” is not allowed and will be addressed by either a warning, chat ban for the next race or anything in between. The first lap is very hectic and there is no need for any chatting other than calling out a spin. For the rest of the race anything other than messages trying to facilitate a safe pass or to call out a spin or other help messages such as “car #51 you are blinking” etc. needs to be limited to the absolute minimum. The friendly banter is part of the league and the occasional 3 second message about “nice pass” or “man that was exciting” is still welcomed when used sparingly. When you decide to come over the mic please hold the button for a half second to full second before you start talking and do not shout. This will give everyone the first warning via on screen message that someone is about to talk and then by not having the first sound we hear be a shout there is less chance of a voice chat message to cause anyone to crash or run off track. If someone is excessively chatting, complaining in a way outside of the spirit of the league, chatting at a high volume or without the half second pause or even spamming the text chat a warning will be issued by me during the race. This is the one and only warning. If it continues that person will have their chat privileges removed for the following race. Also, I may forgo a warning if the person is chatting for more than 5 seconds straight, chatting in an offensive way, or any other spamming of the voice or text chat feature that is not following the spirit of the league.

Car Contact

Attacking and Defending a position will follow three simple rules:
1. The car contact graphic above.
2. A lead or defending car can make one move to defend the entrance to each corner. Multiple moves are not allowed and are to be considered a violation of the Fun First principle. A lead car can choose to defend the inside or outside line for a corner, not both. Moving to cover one of the lines approaching a corner after you have already made your line choice apparent will be against the rule. Failing to move to cover the inside is considered leaving that line choice open and unguarded.
3. No reactionary defending without leaving a car width. A defending car must make their choice to defend a line before an attacking driver makes a move to pass. If a defending driver choses to guard the inside line they must make their move to guard the inside line before an attacking driver moves to position themselves on the inside line and vice versa for the outside line. The caveat is that a defending driver can still fight for the position and does not need to concede a pass if challenged but they must leave racing room.

First Lap Incidents:
The intent of this is to refocus the group on the Fun First motto. We only run one race a week and it is very unfortunate to have a race ended on lap one due to over aggressiveness. This is still a race and we don't want to turn this into a parade but first lap incidents and aggressiveness that lead to contact and/or damage will be reviewed with stricter eyes than just the car contact graphic for first lap incidents. Drivers found to have created an unnecessary incident in the first lap which impacts other drivers may receive punishment outside and/or in addition to the regular probation process such as being required to start from pit lane for the next race. If issued a start from pit lane penalty that driver will need to complete 80% of the following race where they start from the pits to serve the penalty or they will need to continue to start from the pits in following races until the requirement is met.

Weather:
iRacing Default with Mostly Cloudy Skies with the starting track state will be 50% carried over to each session with marbles cleaned between each session.

Qualify Procedure:
The 20 minute qualifying session will kick off automatically by iRacing at the specified time. There is unfortunately no way to hold or delay the session. For all tracks other than Rovals, which will be noted on the schedule (Daytona, Charlotte), the qualifying session will be an open session with all cars on track. For the Rovals we will have lone qualifying to avoid the benefit of a draft lap. Your best incident free lap will determine your qualifying time. This is administered completely by iRacing. Please be sure to check your Relative or F3 box when exiting the pits and on your out lap to make sure you do not impede other drivers on a hot lap. If needed penalties may be applied for impeding another drivers qualifying lap.

Start:
Season 13 will use Rolling Starts for all points races, Fun Runs will be vary by car type and be announced. We will take a full or partial pace lap depending on the track. Please be sure to maintain control of your car. Any contact during the pace lap is still subject to the car contact rules. A good practice is to check your Fast Repair box before rolling off for the pace lap and setting your first option for pit strategy on tires and fuel.

Starts will be handled by iRacing and will follow iRacing's rules on rolling starts. Black flags may be issued by iRacing for jumping the start or passing before the start/finish line. The car qualifying first has the right to start the race at any time between when the pace car pulls off to the green flies. They can choose to inform the group their intentions but are not required to do so. All cars, including the lead car, must maintain a consistent speed from a few seconds before the pace car turns off until the leader decides to start the race. Any brake checking, brake testing, lagging behind to get a jump or any other large variances in speed during this time are not allowed and may be a punishable offence.

Mandatory Pits:
A legal pit stop with service is required for all races except the 30 minute sprints. This means before the last lap of the race you must come down pit road, come to a complete stop in your pit stall, receive some sort of service and safely rejoin the race through pit exit. A service can be changing of 1 to 4 tires, 1 to many gallons of fuel, a windshield tear off or any combination of those items. If you do not stop in your stall and take some sort of service you will not generate a note in the lap listing of Pitted. I will review all lap lists and anyone that does not have a Pitted note in their list of laps will forfeit any points for that race including any clean race bonus points.

Aids/Assists:
Allow all driving aids plus relaxed camera views to encourage new members. It is expected that experienced drivers will not use any assists.

Tuning/Car Setup:
GT races are open setup. You are free to use the baseline setup or any setup you chose. You are responsible for your own amount of fuel and ensuring you have enough to reach the finish. Our 4 race mini-season will typically be fixed setup.

Scoring:
You will need to complete at least one lap to receive any points for a race. Races will be scored using the following points per week based on your finishing position in the iRacing results:

At season end in the event of a tie where more than one person has the same amount of points after throw out points have been applied. The person with the most 1st place finishes will receive the higher finishing position in the overall championship. In the event that the tying parties have the same number of 1st place finishes the tie breaker will move to the most 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, etc. until the tie is broken.

The Championship winner wins the right to run the #1 in the next series, a small amount of bragging rights for winning a video game championship over the internet and a smaller version of the championship logo next to their name for future seasons.

Replay Video Review

We want this league to be a fun, comfortable and fair place to race, somewhere that guys new to the game can come to learn and not feel like they will be run over but also somewhere experienced guys will get a fair shake. To this end we are creating a video replay review system.

The key to success in this is to keep it as simple as possible. There will be no FIA-like “was there an advantage gained” nonsense, this will be an eyeball test – did you dump the guy because you dive-bombed him, did you get impatient with somebody less experienced and just muscled them out of your way, did you turn into a guy passing you because you were trying to block him, etc. That stuff all becomes pretty obvious on video on long as you don’t overthink it. Much like the iRacing incident system, intent will not be factored in here. I think it would be awfully rare for any of us go into a corner thinking “I’m going to dump this guy” but did you go into the corner thinking “how can I get through this and by him without dumping him?” We don’t know that, won’t know that and frankly I don’t think we should care when we do an evaluation.

The plan is to have 3 stewards plus TheKomoMan, and Jason51L in a pinch. We would like to have representatives covering the entirety of the grid so that we not only get the differing perspectives but we are less likely to wind up in a spot where all of the reviewers were involved in a given incident! While faster & slower cars do tangle, we all know that there are certain guys we race around more than others and the more you race around somebody the more likely you are to end up in a bad spot with them. If you would like to volunteer to be a steward please contact TheKomoMan via PM. Before you volunteer please ask yourself what percentage of races you’re likely to participate in. We’re looking for the guys that are there practically every week.

So the nuts & bolts of it…

We’re hoping this system never has to be used, or at most only rarely.

Replay Steward: LOFLYR
Replay Steward: Stang
Replay Steward: Wingnut

Tormania is correct, with the low participation, we are all in the same car class for this season.

If you guys make changes to the Daytona endurance setup please post so I can try it. Also, how much does the dynamic clouds (shade versus sun) really impact times/grip? I thought I read on the forums from the iracing devs that they dialed back how the impact sun has on lap times.
And one final question, at Daytona at the bus stop I heard a few of you were dropping to 2nd. When are you dropping into 2nd? At entry, mid-corner, or for the exit? I think I may be carrying too much speed into the bus stop so I can't drop into 2nd without upsetting the car and revving high. The exit out of the bus stop was really killing my lap times.

I just ordered the Fanatec Mclaren wheel. They include the metal locking collar with it now so you can use it on the CSW 2.5 and new DD wheels. Figured I'd try it out for the ~$240 they charge. Barry Rowland used it on a Leo bodnar DD wheel and said it felt solid. I'm just worried the paddle shifters on my formula wheel may be dying on me. I'll probably have to get some replacement paddle shifters at some point.

Nothing has changed as of yet on the setup. Iím trying to figure out what everyone was feeling on it so I can try to find a direction to go if needed. I will be known if the setup changes as soon as anything does so everyone has a copy of it to practice with. At the bus stup I am going into 3rd between the first 2 apexes. It can be done in 4th but it kills the launch back out.

The clouds might change it a little bit but I donít think itís very much. My understanding to the changes was they reduced the difference by 50% how high temp vs low temp affects the handling. It was a huge difference in feel with just a 10 degree track temp difference.

How is was the setup feeling to you in T1 and T6 in particular?

Felt good to me. I did grab railgunners (?) setup and raced that. He had a touch less from brake bias so I locked that up initially. I tend to try to brake a little early into T1 and stay a bit to the inside so that in the event someone locks up or gets tapped they tend to go to the outside. And the tires feel like jelly for a the next few corners if you lock up the tires so best to avoid locking up. T6 also felt good, I could probably swing out a bit more on exit to stay in the throttle more. Again, felt very stable to me. The GTE seems very planted compared to some other cars we have driven that get squirrely out of T6.

In an endurance race I may use the in car adjustment to add/remove a touch of brake bias or TCS depending on weather and tire condition.

Might throw my hat in the ring. That is if you want another driver.
