I usually tell most people who don't know it's a G35 with a body kit.

Congratulations, Toyota! You have hit the performance benchmark of the LS1 F-Body, which was last built 16 years ago. Stellar!

The MKIV owners must be laughing their asses off.

Pathetic. I see they are trying the popular (and in this case bogus) approach of having an F1 style front end. Doesn't make sense for a car with entry level specs. I think the rear 3/4 rear view is cool, but the front end is pure catfish.

And the power/weight similar to what the Surpa had 25 YEARS ago?!!!! Should have at least 600 HP to occupy the same peg as before. Should have called this the Corolla GT.

Only good news is that the excellent BMW I-6 can be nicely modded and modern engine management will give it plenty of low end torque. But again, it appears that Toyota simply doesn't want to try hard any more. They are only producing this "Supra" for the purpose of having a tie in to their also fake NASCAR "Supra" and vice versa.

The MKIV is a legend and has nastiest I-6 yet unleashed when modified, not to mention the best sounding engine/turbo/wastegate symphony I've ever heard, bar none. This is 3 steps backward....

5 seconds to sixty and it's a sports car? My giant freaking Range Rover in stock form runs to sixty in 4.5 seconds, so that'd be pretty embarrassing. Hope it turns corners better than a RR.

Is the motor derived from the same I6 as would be in my E46 M3? I like that motor, sounds epic. Only 340hp, but that was 2003, enough for the day.

Now they're releasing one with essentially the same performance as the '93, for I'm guessing $50k or more. Maybe if it's as easy to mod as the last one they will sell ok, but that's just too weak in stock form to compete.
The Supra has "retained" it's value cause they stopped making them.

Actually, the Pontiac was made by Toyota. Not the other way around.

That said, Toyota Cavalier was made by GM.

But Chevrolet Prizm was made by Toyota.

I used to drive almost exclusively BMW, last one was the 2000 750iL V12 flagship. Love, love, loved that car. But I haven't bought a BMW since they hired Bangle. Doubt I ever will, unless they change designers and something really moves me. I forget the name of the guy who designed this one, but he also did the Range Rover when BWM owned it, and I still have a 2010 RR Autobiography where you can see the design lineage go back to the pre-Bangle 7-series interior, etc.

I had a 250hp shot of nitrous on this V12. Bottle warmer, remote opener switch in the console, etc. Made it interesting in those pre-turbo days!

Yes but you're comparing Shania Twain to Rosanne....

The ratio of available cars of that year is like 2000 to 1...

oooohhh supra...

A turdyota by any other name is still a pile of steaming ****...

The Supra intrigued me a little because it's a Toyota. Much like the NSX gets my attention because it's a Honda. The BMW engine removes all interest for me. I owned one BMW, a 2011 X5M. Every time it started and ran all the way to it's intended destination I was truly relieved. Once, even the loaner X5 left us stranded. My wife said it best, "You'd have to be a sadist to buy a second BMW."

Why in the world did they use a BMW engine instead of an in-house Toyota version?

To cut the development cost or maybe Toyota thought it already was a good engine?

The Toyota 86 is powered by Subaru. Ford Taurus SHO was powered by Yamaha.
The new Mustang Inline-4 Turbo is supposedly derived from Mazda 6.

Who knows, a lot of manufactures use other engines even though they know how to build their engine in-house.
