If it has not, her "option" is basically worthless. Another method is to award a given number of shares that "vest" over a period of time. For example, if you go to work for Amazon in a professional position, you are "awarded" 3,000 shares of stock that vest over five years, i.e.: 600 shares a year. If you stay the full five years you "get" the full 3,000 shares at the price the stock was on the day you started. Once again, if the price goes up, you win. If the price goes down you lose. That's how this stuff works. It's not quite as simplistic as you envision.
You're wasting your time explaining to (Silverback) what stock options actually means.

Everybody is pissing & moaning about GM being Government motors, but they seem to forget Chrysler took a bailout too. So **** Chrysler or whatever they are called this week as it changes so often. This is why you don't buy a Hellcat!!

I love how people opine on something they know little about. She could have been granted ISOs or NSOs if it was options. ISOs are options awarded to employees and must be granted a a strike price that is at FMV. So it is not certain she was granted options at a discount to FMV unless that is spelled out in the proxy. If she was granted NSOs she will pay ordinary tax on the gain at strike. If she was granted stock then that is compensation to her and thus taxable as ordinary income and only capital gains over the compensation basis. The shareholder proxy firms do not like options due to the ability/temptation to pump and dump. They will recommend a vote against a significant amount of options. So before assuming that she is set up to pillage the company, one needs to understand the deal. So, if you dont like how she runs the company, dont own the stock and dont buy the product. Quite possibly if the unions didnt have dumbass provisions in the contract like the jobs bank, maybe other steps could have been taken besides layoffs. I dont know any of this for certain, but there is usually more than meets the eye and am ok with sound business decisions to make a company more successful. GM and Chrysler only get bailed out because dumbass politicians were ok with socialism on the way down. That part really ticks me off. There should have not been govt intervention capitalistic forces would have handled the consequences just fine. Btw tarp is the only govt program that actually made the treasury money. Remember genious Obama allowef for GM stock that the govt acquired to be sold at a loss. But he was the messiah so it was ok.

I'm assuming you are referring to this statement, correct?

"Have you ever heard of a CEO that did not come out smelling like a rose after they drove a company to ****?"

Well it is pretty much a fact is it not? Have you ever heard of a CEO of a large corporation that got fired that did not come out with millions when all was said and done?

The ones that should be butthurt are the stockholders that got fucked when the CEO ran the company into the ground. Since I'm not a stock holder I'm not butthurt and really don't give a **** except that I think the CEO and board of directors is a racket.

Good try. Just saying it does not make it true.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve by reading more into what I write, but eventually you will end up looking like a fool.

Want to keep trying?

Most of you couldn't give a crap about non-essential employees during the govt shutdown so why care now because it is a civilian company? The more GM builds their cars in Mexico or China the more cars I will not have to worry about considering. And I say any company that expects a bailout next time should just let them fail. $22 mil is a lot for a CEO that would at worst receive a golden parachute if she is fired. Corporations could fire half of their employees and still survive.

We can all agree that throughout it's history, GM has been reactive rather than proactive, right?
So, now GM has a proactive CEO, and it's off with her head.
I sure hope many respondents here are not running companies. The lack of BASIC business knowledge here is laughable.
