Default Great bands that never made it big...

I've been listening a lot to Mr. Bungle from the 90's lately.. Retrovertigo and Quote Unquote (Travolta) are great songs. This was a great band but they never made it big.. Very unique mix of styles within the same songs.. While Mike Patton made it big with Faith No More, the success with Mr. Bungle was very limited even though it was a great cross genre band before cross genre became popular..
Can you name any other bands that were great but never had great commercial success??

Crack The Sky

Were pretty big in Baltimore and the mid Atlantic area in the 1970’s
way ahead of their time.
John Palumbo was brilliant.

Check them out.

Look up the song "Time To Burn" from their second album.

Although big in Japan, Harem Scarem never made it in the US.
Gotthard is a group from Switzerland that is one of my favorites. Their lead singer, Steve Lee, was killed in a motorcycle wreck in Vegas a couple or five years ago.

Black Stone Cherry

Kind of a ZZ Top vibe IMO.

I always thought of Evanescence as a band that started out with so much promise but fizzled out after their first album.

that's because the chick's annoying, whiny voice got on everyone's nerves and their hits were A-songs on the radio...meaning they got played once every three hours per station that played that genre. It was never great to begin with, but got over played so much it became horrible. I'd rather listen to old school whiny country than that stuff.

Did King Crimson make it big? I liked the band Failure's Fantastic Planet album, haven't listened to their other stuff. A Perfect Circle did a cover of "The Nurse who loved me". The singer sounds similar to Curt Kobain but I guess they never really took off.

Best band ever. Saw them when they came to Rochester NY in the late 70's on a tour promoting this album. Hands down, my favorite album of all time.

Really? They're almost as boring as "It's a Beautiful Day".

These guys are fantastic, but I believe they are quite successful, and are current.

A perfect Circle never made it big? That's the lead singer from Tool's first side project and they hit huge.

Possible. I never hear them on Sirius, never hear about them in concert or travelling. As I say that, I don't follow them online or anything. Found them on YT, and DL'd a few of their songs into my phone.

Overrated bands often play into their 5th decade?
