Played football. Swimmer (swam in college). Dated the cheerleaders. Now that I think of it, I dated half the squad. Drove a bitchin Camaro. Played in the school band. President of National Honor Society. Drank a lot of beer. A lot. Graduated 3rd out of 400. Worked 20-30 hours a week. Pretty much hung out with whoever was having fun at the moment. Lots and lots of friends in a lot of different groups, but only a few really close ones that I still see today on a regular basis. High school was fun for me and I got along with almost everyone.

Interesting thread.

I played sports at the start of high school . . . was pretty good, originally hung out with that crowd. Was mostly in the smarter classes.
But in my junior year I played sports but also I volunteered to work on the tech crew for the high school play . . . turned out I liked doing the theater stuff and people as much as football or baseball.
Senior year my parents split up, had to look after my sister (8 years younger) after school so I kind of did nothing, which sucked.
Overall had lots of friends, and good times . . .and still like watching sports and theater

Biggest regret was never had the $$$ for my own car. Boy did I want a car in high school. Probably why I've had so many, got my kids cars in high school, and still own 5 right now.

I was in the I hate ******* school group. I dropped out and joined the Navy. I really liked the Navy. They immediately sent me to 31 weeks of Aviation Electronics School. I excelled and made E5 in 2 years. It pretty much cemented what I did for the rest of my career.

I was in the group who always had an involuntary boner at the most inopportune moment. Like just before giving a book report in front of the class or having to get up and write on the chalk board. It was my superpower.

I guess I was sort of a chameleon. I travelled in many circles. I wasn't exactly a jock, although I did play varsity tennis, but I wrote sports for a local weekly paper and travelled on the team bus to football and basketball games, so I was part of that crowd.

I edited the high school paper, so that got me in with the group that basically ran things like the yearbook, student government, activities planning, etc. I never thought I was particularly academic, but I seemed to always get mostly As and Bs if I just showed up with a pulse.

I took four years of auto shop and was considered number one in that area and drove a '65 GTO that I bought with money I had earned working at a deli. So I hung out with the gearheads. I was in garage band for awhile (not very good) so I knew all the musicians.

My adult life has pretty much been the same way. I seem to be able to fit in just about anywhere I want to and if I join a club I usually become the president. One day in the 80s I was with a small group of people in my Jaycees club who got to have a breakfast meeting with Dick Thornburg, the US Attorney General. That evening I was at a Hell's Angels party and BBQ.

I studded hard to get into St. John The Baptist High School and stupidly left after 2 years, to attend the BOCES Auto Mechanic's Program, at Brentwood HS ( BHS, Home of MS13, till TRUMP was elected).

BHS was an eye opener, even THEN, it was a shithole! After that, I got into the Automotive Engineering Program at SUNNY at Farmingdale NY. Left to come to cali!

So true.

I don't think my perception of what group I was in matched what others felt.

For instance I dated a cheerleader but from a different school, and I drove 3 good looking girls to school in my GTI clone, but I felt like an outcast and rejected by the "in-crowd". Yet I befriended some of the in-crowd in college and they thought I was the cool guy who lived on the lake, had ski get togethers, and had hotties pop out of their VW every morning. Lol

Played ice hockey, defensemen. Played varsity baseball (left handed pitcher) until I threw my arm out. Had an 83 mph fastball and coach taught me to throw a wicked curveball, but apparently my arm wasn't developed enough yet in tenth grade and it wrecked my elbow. Still bothers me from time to time today.
Raced competitive motocross with a partial sponsorship, travelled a lot for that. As far as books, graduated 24 out of 1230 never taking a book home. I could just listen in class and retain info, sortof like a prodigy B Smith. from 2-9 during the week i worked at a lumber yard. On Saturday nights, I threw keg parties in the woods behind my home, which was also the rear of our high school. Made enough money to keep an 83 fox body as my daily, lol. liked wrenching A LOT, and spent a fair amount of time wrenching on cars and dirtbikes. Dated the same cheerleader for three out of four years of high school. She was really fuggin hot and super sweet, should have kept that one, lol.

people like me which wasnt many. I was known as the one who didnt care. I remember leaving with no school books and my math teacher saw me leaving and would say you have homework wheres your books. I would be cool with some gang members so I wouldnt get jumped. I also use to put on cologne azzarro and cool water so I had female friends

Do highschool guys wear cologne? If any of you have sons tell them to put it on. When we switch class and walk in the hallways I would be at my locker and have girls come up smell me and make comments

We had 3 HS in my home town. Back in 69-71 I was pretty popular in a 3. My junior and senior I had a small shop in the warehouse district where myself and two friends kept our race cars, worked on cars, and drank beer at night. Soon it became a popular hang out for like minded beer drinkers. Senior year we converted the shop into a bootleg club. Rolled the cars out, rigged up sound system, and set up tables and chairs. Bought a horse water tank and filled it with kegs of beer and ice. Charged people $5.00 a head to drink all you wanted 8 pm till 2 am. We would have over 500 guest during the average weekend. When I graduated I was making $1,500 to 2,000 a month good money back then. Had a nice apartment, new 70 - 442, nice C/S 65 GTO race car, and more girl friends than the law allowed.

Operated for over two years then when things were at the top the police came and suggested we shut things down or else. I still run into people who attended or had heard about "the warehouse".

Although I played football throughout HS, and hung out with some of the guys on the team, I was not really a "jock". Nor was I part of what was considered to be the "in crowd" at our school, although I friendly with a fair number of them. I took electric shop all four years, part of which made me and this other guy (also a football player) "AV" guys for school assemblies and such. But despite that, I wasn't a geek, either. I did a fair amount of partying, but also had good grades, so I wasn't a full-fledged partier, either (maybe "semi-fledged"...). I was also on good terms with our class's more "hoodlum" types, without participating. So I was never messed with by them. My closest friends were also kind of "in the middle", to a large extent. Not part of any specific group, but on decent terms with all of them. To this day, I think I am more of a generalist than a specialist, with a broad range of interests, and reasonably able to fit into a broad range of "crowds", so to speak.

I have basically good memories of HS, although in general I view my college experience more positively than HS.
