Default The "I Watched My Boat Leave With A New Owner" Thread...

...after 31 years of boating, I'm officially retired. The last 7-9yrs of boat ownership just saw the wife and I using it only 3-4 times per summer. With the bicycle phase(still ride about 200mi per week when it's decent out), the Harley Davidson phase(have a trike, ride about 1400mi per year), the Mustang phase(still drive my '06 GT conv 1200mi per year)just seems like there is only so much time to do stuff. Actually, my 1988 Wellcraft 210 Classic(21ft)with a 230hp 4bbl 305ci Chevy & Mercruiser outdrive was a very good, reliable combination. Paid $11250 for it in '95 when it was 7yrs old, put about $9K in it over 24yrs, sold it this past weekend for $5K. They always say "Bust Out Another Thousand" and how boats can be a money pit, but after 24yrs I did the math and mine came out to $658 PER year. I did all my own maintenance except when the forward & right engine stringers needed replacing along with the whole floor, carpet & some seat panel replacement. Hopefully, my '68 convertible will be back on the road this summer as I replace the gas tank on it. Been 2yrs since I've driven that one.

And I’ve BTDT with the Break Out Another Thousand type boats.
It’s why I have a 16’ aluminum skiff with a 30hp tiller. I have less in it than most have in wheels / tires on a hot rod. It’s bulletproof and “wash & wear”.

Geez... sounds like you are divorcing the boat. Best of luck and hope you continue to find whatever makes you happy

...Kinda what my wife said. Didn't really make me happy, just relieved. The wife, not so much. I just retired 1.5yrs ago and just trying to thin down my herd a little. Now down to 10 vehicles. Even though I'm retired, I don't want to spend all of my time wrenching, working on & washing vehicles for my retirement. Now, just to sell a couple more.....

Whaddya gettin' rid of next ?

$658 a year for a 21 footer wit a Chevy - that's only $54.83 a mont X 21 years = for a total of payments of $13,818

Reckon I can take over yer 06 Mustang GT Vert payments ? Wut that gonna be ? 'bout $22 a mont ?

If I give up toilet paper, deodorant, and and haircuts, I can swing it in my budget

You got your money's worth. Sell the bicycle, get a new boat.

It’s sad selling a boat, I prefer to just keep them.

my boat wasn't for sale, but someone made me an offer on mine that I just couldn't refuse. I owned it since new and had it four years. I sold for what I paid. now that weather is breaking I regret selling, lol

Congratulations on retiring, Paul.

Nice to get underway on figuring out what you *do* want.

yes. turns out they are pretty good boats and have gained a following up here. pricing is rising so used ones are selling for what many of us paid originally.
