Default Anyone live in or near Evergreen, Colorado?

Taking a trip there in two weeks. My wife and I both have a week off work and decided to head west (we live in metro Detroit) and wanted to see something different. What’s the weather like this time of year, and what is there to do? We are driving, and bringing our two Australian Shepherds with us. Thanks!

Evergreen is in a beautiful valley. Easy access from there to Denver, Golden (Coors Brewery tour), Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater (no concerts until later in the Spring), Idaho Springs (interesting old mining town), Blackhawk & Central City (gambling towns), Lookout Mountain (great views and Buffalo Bill museum & grave), easy drive to ski areas -Breckenridge/Copper Mountain/Vail/Beaver Creek/Winter Park, Steamboat Springs - Hot Springs about a 2 hour beautiful drive, Colorado Springs (Pikes Peak/Air Force Academy/Garden of the Gods Park, Rocky Mountain National Park (called the Switzerland of the Rockies for the fantastic mountains. If you like beer, in addition to Coors Brewery, their are dozens of craft breweries throughout the region, if you're interested there are recreational marijuana shops everywhere, and tons of great restaurants throughout the region.

So, lots to do!

I like Evergreen. My ex girlfriends brother lives there so we spent a lot of time up there. It’s a sleepy little town with a few bars, restaraunts, etc. stop by the Icehouse for coffee in the morning and then a beer at night.
Careful driving down the narrow roads, u might come around a corner and run into a herd of elk/moose crossing the road
overall, love the place

Not too far west of Evergreen, the drive up to the top of Mt. Evans is awesome, depending on when you are going, and weather permitting.... But it is only open after sometime in late May (at least the top portion, to the summit, which is over 14,000 feet).

Along the way you pass Echo Lake and Summit Lake (the latter is quite high up, above the tree line). It might be that the road up to Summit Lake is kept open?

(OK, I looked, and it says that the final 5-mile section between Summit Lake and the actual summit is currently scheduled to open for the season on 5/24/19.)

Mike94, the weather can change very rapidly this time of year. In case you hadn't been watching the national news earlier this week, google "Colorado snow cyclone" to see what CO denizens were experiencing just a few days ago. But on the other hand, the weather could be sunny and pleasant

Half of Colorado was a mess this past week due to bad weather. Keep an eye on that.

I lived there for a couple years. Nice little town. The dragstrip is just down the back road down the hill, nice curvy run. Road to Mt Evans is cool, doubt its open yet. Can hit 6 and that's a nice road over to Golden for the Coors tour. Get a map and cruise around. Red Rocks, even if no ones playing, check it out during a sunny day. There's dinosaur tracks on the side of the road near there too. Bring a jacket and lots of water. Good music right in Evergreen at night. Usually the bands come in their own motorcoaches, so top shelf stuff IIRC.

It is still ski season but it is soon to be mud season. difficult to do anything off of the paved roads until it dries up.
