Default <Video> The Last Of The NATO RF-4E Phantoms

On May 5th, 2017, the official retirement ceremony of the Hellenic Air Force RF-4E Phantom II took place at Larissa air base.

Perhaps the last operational Phantoms altogether?

One of my two favorite aircraft. The second is the P-51.

Damn! That paint job is embarrassing! I would have insisted on a name change to not embarrass the great legacy of the Phantom!

Sad to me...
‘I crewed E models USAF from’81 to ‘85 @ Moody AFB, Ga....
airplane was solid, great to work on and the one chance I got to fly was absolutely a dream
Hated to see the QRF-4’s out of Holloman being used as drones.
‘Great memories of my time with the F-4, *** kicking Vietnam machine....

If you put a big enough engine on a brick, it'll fly

One of my favorite fighters. They have the one flown by triple ace General Robin Olds at the Air Force museum. He had 12 kills in WWII and 4 during Vietnam and was the author of operation Bollo the plan to lure the NVA'S Mig 21 and it worked.

Also affectionately know to it's pilots as Double Ugly, Big Ugly, or the Rhino. I'm so glad I got to be a Phantom Phlyer.
