In the modern, do they still let their techs shoot?

I dont know if all of the Teams adopted the organization of Team 6. Back then, guys wanted to get selected for Team 6! The Colored Teams started right in the late 1980/early 1981?????

When I was in the service, it was the pure SOCOM organization! More multi-service defendant!

I know in 1987, they reorganized under NAVSPECWAR (became more self sustained, supported with way less reliance on other branches). I was a Government Contractor by then, and spent some time out San Clemente and San Nicolas Islands doing ****!

If youre IAd to a team Im sure you can talk someone into letting you shoot, especially during the work up phase. However, they do limit the exposure of support personnel.

I never got to forward deploy! Nothing was happening then! I went out on Local Area Ops and set up the Command/Communications, checked out the radios basically, set up the crypto daily, antennas, etc. But they didnt want me to just stand around and be worthless!

So, since you now have the suppressor sights, will you be adding a can?

Suppress all the things...

I already have a can....I would just have to get a threaded barrel. Main reason for the suppressor height sights is to co-witness with the RMR red dot.

The vanilla teams are the numbered SEAL Teams. On the West Coast, SEAL Teams 1, 3, 5, and 7. On the East Coast, SEAL Teams 2, 4, 8, and 10. These are your traditional Teams.

The colored Teams are members of JSOC and comprise the Naval Special Warfare Development Group. These are the Teams that members of the public erroneously refer to as SEAL Team 6. The reason they are sometimes called colored Teams is because their squadrons are designated by colors such as red, gold and blue.

Thanks for the clarification. As long as we're on the subject, what about teams that are comprised of operators from joint forces? (I forget the name. Joint Special Operations Command?)

What I remember, Vanilla Teams was an insult! !There was division in the command structure. Some guys had Counter terrorist training added to their skill sets!

The Conventional Team was like 16 guys! And I think with the advent of Colored Teams they went to like 50 operators in like Attack Teams or purpose designated roles! The threats were bigger, and more bold being encountered. The original conventional role was stealth , insertion, strategic mission oriented! With the shift to handling entire Terrorist cells, they needed true overwhelming fire power for total tactical advantage!

As I was assigned Tech support, An actual Seal could probably explain better!

Well, technically, Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU), 1st-SFOD-D (CAG), and the 24th STS are within JSOC and get their tasking through JSOC. CAG, while mostly recruiting from the Army, also has Marines, etc assigned to them. A CAG Marine was awarded the Navy Cross after Benghazi. To keep it on topic, CAG carries the Glock 22.

I was surprised to see how popular the 40 cal is among the SOF guys. HSTs were also their go to ammo, which is interesting and good.

The conventional teams have well over 16 members. There are 16 SEALS in a platoon and each numbered Team has 6 platoons as well as an administrative component and ancillary support that have been IAd and sometimes from SEAL Team 17.

While the teams concentrate on small unit surface warfare and underwater demolition during Phase III and SQT, they may get additional counter-terrorist training during work-ups. During the height of the war, the teams drifted away from a traditional waterborne role to land warfare, but lately, they seem to be shifting back a little and going back to their roots.
