why, fuel efficiency to help meet café standards for one. keeps engine operating at a more efficient rpm for more miles

if you pulled any old transmission out of a junkyard your new car or truck wouldn't go ten feet without bigger issues due to incompatibility with the computer systems. good luck.

I thought the 8 speed was great wit the 6.2 420 hp engine. However, I wish the Denali could be steeper geared, like 4.10 and not 3.23, then 1-2-3 would be good during 4x4 launches at the redlight in the rain. They were also too close together, 1 and 2 needed to be shorter for bigger rpm drops down low, its not a motorcycle. The 6 speeds aren't much improvement over the 4L80, as 5-6 geaers are only once at speed on the highway, 1-2-3 are still tall and take forever to run out.
