There is getting scammed and then getting ripped off...

Well not sure if my friend was dumber or smarter than gixxer. He made the bothers open up the box first, thinking he was smart. So in side the box was another box made to look like a VCR, they even had an electrical cord sticking out of it

That's good one, have to laugh at that, but no. Just a stupid salesman ploy I fell for, pissed me off more than anything.

So this guy at a gas station said he needed gas and a place to stay they were out of money. I said, hey let's fiiler up and see how much she takes, and then I'll call my brother who manages a marriot down the street and get you hooked up. They declined my offers about helping them. From then on I help no one, except I'll give the bum $5 to go buy beer or smokes or whatever if its hot out.

Not sure if you classify it as a scam, but when you see something on a menu listed as market price, vs an actual price always ask ahead. I got a bill for $55 for three scallops in a salad. That got me once, but never will again.

I was friends with a girl who clearly had drug issues, but called me one day "needing food". She asked for money. I said I'd come by later.

I went to the store and bought a bunch of groceries for her.

The look on her face when I showed up with all the bags.........she was expecting cash, pretty sure.

So I got scammed out of the grocery money, but also felt like I scammed a scammer, and maybe helped her in some way.

The two that come to mind for me are:

1. I bought a 1973 Fiat 124 Spider that the seller was running on (probably) pure STP to keep it from smoking. (I bought it in 1978.) On regular oil it was obviously burning a lot of oil, which led me to having to take the cylinder head apart, to put in new valve guides and valve stem seals.

2. My brother-in-law convinced me to go in on a small oil-drilling venture, down in Kentucky. It was a piece of a project to drill four wells. All four were dry holes. Or so the drilling company said..... (It might well have been legitimate, but how would I have ever known?) On the plus side, it wasn't THAT big of a dollar amount, and I learned a valuable lesson on things not to invest in..... And at least I got a tax deduction for the loss.....

Yep I can't argue with anything you said. I wanted a VCR bad but didn't make enough bucks back then to justify one. Might have been the oldest scam now but back then it was new to me. Was I dumb or ignorant probably a little of both.

Ive loaned money, that didn't get paid back, for various reasons. Some business related some not. But, I knew that was a possibility, so its not really the same as being scammed.

I know I shouldn't ask but what did he scam you out of? You didn't have one of those artist attractions did you?
