We bought a 2013 Jeep JK from a local dealer that was already lifted, 35's, upgraded shocks, fully loaded, etc. etc. for 42k brand new. We had it exactly 1 year and put 13k miles on it driving from Texas to California/Colorado/Arizona/etc. Like previously mentioned, it was one of our DD's and while it was a super fun toy, it was definitely not comfortable at all. Ended up selling it after one year to a private party for 43k. LOL Bought a King Ranch after that, the ride difference was obviously night and day. Fast forward 6 years, I'm ready to get one as a toy. I do miss that jeep!

Then it will not be as fun as the Jeep, which clearly was the point of replacing an FJ with one in the first place.

Long day yesterday looking. Spent some time on JL forums, etc as well.

We're going to buy a Sport model (lowest options). None in Tucson, only Black and Dark Grey in PHX, and it's too damn hot in AZ for that dark of a color.

Local dealership located a white one in CA, so today he's going to work on that for us today.

Soft tops are harder to find. The JL soft top is pretty sweet on the Unlimited 4 door. Wife can flip it back on her own, and also close it back up on her own, so that's a huge plus.

I wish we could find a more fun color, like the Lime Green or the Teal Blue, but can't find a Sport model in those colors with auto and soft top. FJ is now gone, and we're just going to be patient, I guess.

There are a ton of Rubicon JL take off parts already out there, so we're going to get Sport model and upgrade tires/rims, rock rails, etc. from the takeoff pile.

Check with Dave Smith Motors in Idaho. They'll ship it to you for a very reasonable cost. My JK Rubicon was 35.5k out the door.

And this is why dealerships have the reputation that they have........

GM calls me, says good and bad news. Good is the car they accepted my price on is good to go. Bad news is there is a dealer installed LoJack or something ($500) and it's $900 to ship to Tucson from San Diego, about 350 miles.

So $1,400 in hidden cost. And they told me I can't go pick it up, must be shipped.

Sneaky part: when the Tucson dealer sent me the sticker, the bottom of the image was cut off- where the VIN is. I'm guessing they didn't want me to buy it directly from CA. But a few minutes of searching online, and I found it.

Now I'm talking to the dealer in San Diego, and may go out on Sat to get it.

Nothing is easy.

My response is meant with no disrespect.... -but- asking "What should I expect to pay?" makes you look a bit ill-informed when looking to make a vehicle purchase.

No one is going to do the research for you. And it's up to you to know if the purchase you are going to make is a rip-off, a fair deal, a good deal, a great deal, or a steal.

There are so many tools online to help make informed decisions in this area. Some of them "tools" would be right here on the forum too. Hahaha

That aside, CAR GURUS is an excellent source for price comparing and shopping in a localized region like the Southwest. I use Car Gurus very often and feel their pricing algorithm is a good place to start when it says Good Deal or Great Deal.

And like one poster stated above, Jeeps are very Hit or Miss with reliability. I know one Jeep owner that was in the shop so much that she decided to get a RENTAL anytime she had to drive more than 200 miles just in case. Now THAT is sad!!

But if a new Jeep is what you want, we wound up with a Jeep Grand Cherokee as a rental (the irony), and with the cylinder deactivation, we deove 530 miles before filling up and still had 1/8th tank remaining. Jeep claims about 600 miles per tank.

It was comfortable. Quiet. Okay acceleration for a 6-cylinder at that weight. Excellent mpg. And the stock stereo was very acceptible quality.

I thought about getting reeplacing my faithful 2001 GMC Yukon for a Grand Cherokee. And then I reminded myself of her Jeep issues.

Good luck and best wishes on your new selection.

As a side note, I was going to look at the new Hyundai Palisade SUV this week.

Hyundai is NOT my brand of choice. But the new Palisade looks to be a heavy hitter in exterior styling, overall appearance, interior quality, and pricing.

No offense taken, probably could have chosen my words more carefully, and was mostly just making conversation since people generally like to speculate on what kinds of deals are out there.

I did my research, the internet is a big place with lots of people sharing info. As someone noted earlier in the thread, 8% off invoice seems to be the best deal out there that happens regularly, so I used some available tools to build the vehicle my wife wants, and come up with invoice cost.

Then, I subtracted 8% and made an offer, which was accepted, although dealer didn't quite disclose all the details (like $900 to ship to AZ), so I'm re-routing around them and going straight to the dealer in CA where it's on their lot. I can fly out there and pick it up for less than half of $900, including gas cost.

I feel pretty informed, but if there's anything you can point me to for additional savings, that would be awesome.

Would the sales tax be higher since it is being sold in California?

Pretty sure I'd just pay tax here.

But San Diego dealer won't do the same price as the AZ Dealer. Coincidentally (?), the SD dealer's price is within 10 bucks all-in of what it'd cost to ship here.

I'm going with collusion!!!

As Lars would say, "fukkem". Wife can drive the Lexus until I find the right deal.

Shouldn't be. As I understand it, they either charge his local rate or none and he has to pay it to his local DMV when registering. I forget which.

Pretty sure I posted pic of supermodel wife when the threat of being doxxed and my life destroyed- including what brand of toilet paper I use, IIRC- was happening.

I had to show kspaz what he was getting into- something about me sending her up there.....can't quite recall. Must have been super stoned at the time. I know, shocking.
