Default drove a 350Z today

I had agreed to put brake pads on the front of a 350Z for a pretty Hooters girl (being the dirty ole man I am). When I finished, I took it out for a spin
Man oh man, is that thing sorely lacking in power, maybe its ok if you are coming from a Civic, Corolla etc, but after feeling V8 power it is NOTHING. In fact my VW powered Spyder puts it to shame. I understand now why she said "WOW " when we rode to the parts store in a SBC powered car.
WTF, I guess a chick needs a chick's car.

I see more women driving Corvettes than women driving 350Zs. Too bad most Corvette owners are old farts that wont rev their engine beyond 2500 RPM and won't open the throttle more than 25%... in their automatic.

I have an 03 6spd and I find the power of the 350Z good for a 6 cyl!

So, are we talking about power or torque ?
350Z produces similar or more HP than old school SBC if it's put in power band. but feeling is different because lowend torque is greater with bigger engine. But again, it's just how you feel, and reality is 350Z could go faster than old SBC, although depending on whch SBC you are referring to.

To me , the feeling was it had nothing, no torque and no HP. The little red lite came on when you went over 5 grand on the tach, but I still took it up to 6K (redline looked to be about 6500). It just seemed to me, that I had to really "row" it with the gear shifter to get it going.

"I have an 03 6spd and I find the power of the 350Z good for a 6 cyl!"

It kinda reminded me of a 6 banger Toyo truck I used to have, except not as much torque.
But, I have to keep things in perspective, we had just gotten out of a car with an "old skool" SBC with 430hp & 430 ft lb tq. pulling 2350 lbs of weight (with 2 people in), that will get you a speeding ticket on the Interstate in 1st gear(80 mph @ 6500). I guess it all depends on what you are used to, but I still expected alittle more from the Datsun. The pluses are it is a cool lookin car and everything seemed really tight and functioned well, just not for me.

Haha, you must be a 350Z owner...

My friend let me drive his, which was sadly an automatic. The car was a bucket of lameness. Looks great but just so blah to drive. Also, these cars are so played out these days...

I don't like 350Zs and don't drive one. Too heavy and underpowered IMHO. I do drive a Nissan though.

Default 2007 350z

I just test drove a 6MT base model 2007 350Z, and I was impressed with the power of the car. Not as fast as the C6, but for $28K, not bad. Take care, Mike.

You should join one of our mountain runs. Some of the "old farts" will undoubtably leave you in the dust!
You may not know this, but many of these guys were getting their licenses during the musclecar heyday of the mid-to-late 60s. Once a gearhead, always a gearhead, I say.

I have an 06 350Z. It's ok compared to the other cars on the road. Not so sure about an upgrade from Civic and such. Different category cars. It does hold it self down for it's price of 27K. I don't really think anyone counts more on it than a 350Z. A lot of people call it a poor man's corvette, as the G35 her sister is the poor man's M3.

They are naturally aspirated 6 cylinders! What exactly are you expecting? The new ones run high 13's at like 101 mph. That is a GOOD bit faster than most C4 Corvettes. Some of you really need to clean the caviar out of your *** and just be CAR GUYS for once.

Guys, this is like an experienced F-16 pilot flying a F4 Phantom...when you're used to a high performance machine, almost anything will feel pretty lame in comparison.

The 350Z performs very well for its price, one reason it remains the highest selling sports car in the world. But honestly is 306HP out of a NA 3.5L V6 that bad? I mean the car is just as quick as a C4...but with much less displacement and 2 less cylinders.

I worked for Nissan when the 350Z first came out; got one in Daytona Blue and man - I felt like I was driving the Batmobile for the first couple months - I ended up IN Daytona during Biketoberfest the first weekend I had it, and you KNOW when Harley guys are complimenting your ricer cage that it must look good...

Of course, now they're awfully common, and I love my new C6 in ways that I never felt about the Nissan... but it was still a good car, RWD, awesome shifter for a car that price, and plenty fast (see above for the C4 comparison)...

I don't know about any caviar in any asses, (sorry, but that's funny) but I think the Z is a great car, in its class.

Or maybe that should be the question - say you absolutely have to have a sporty car right in that 29-32k price range (and it can't be a used C5 or C5Z!)

The Mazda RX8 and Honda S2000 are pretty good looking but torque-less wonders - maybe the turbo-charged Solstice or Sky? Any other ideas?

Good thread.
