Default mazda help from vette guys

Hi all. My son in law has a maxda RX 8 . He says it floods if you do not let the engine run for at least 1 min. Is this possible? How to get it to start now? Do rotarys have a spark plug I can pull to lat air in to evaporate the gas? HELP?? Thanx to all that can help

I had an RX7 years ago so I'm of very limited help; I believe it's electronic throttle (drive by wire?) so you're at a computer's mercy from sensors to pedal...........yes, there is one spark plug per "pancake" (is the RX8 dual rotary?). I'm sorry I can't be more help................

I have an 8 and no flooding. Many have that issue. Have the dealer upgrade to newer plugs and get the latest firmware upgrades.. Love the 8 !

V_Vette, what are you getting for gas mileage? Does the firmware and newer plugs make a difference in that regard?

The RX8 will flood if you don't have the latest firmware and you start it cold in cold weather and turn it off before it warms.

A few things seem to be at play, first the computer before the latest firmware upgrade, keeps pumping gas a little too long e.g. leaves unburnt gas in the chamber, the plugs get fouled and in cold temps, when you start it the rotors do not have enough compression to overcome that, the rotary is a low compression motor...

Tell him to use the Mazda recommended procedure which always worked for me. IF you have to simply move it in the winter, run it at 3000 RPM for at least 30 seconds and then turn it off while it is there.

Also tell him to head on over to RX8club.com...Tons of helpful information over there --- just like here on the Corvette.

didn't for me. 15 to 17 to\from work 5 miles each way. 20 to 22 on extended highway driving...that way for all 34K miles for me -- except

I got only about 7 to 10 at VIR or Summit Point or WG or Limerock or Pocono D
