Talk me out of this...

Jealousy brings out the ignorance in most...
Compare this:
1986 Porsche 948
Cost of Ownership (Initial Investment, converted) = ~$6-12K
Estimated (average) Retail = ~$10-14K
Weight = ~2800 lbs.
0-60 = ~4.5-5.0 seconds (Optimistic)
2009 Corvette Z06
Estimated (average) Retail = ~$48-53K average
Weight = ~3200 lbs.
0-60 = ~4.1 seconds
Are a few tenths of a second 0-60 worth 40 Grand?
After 23 years of R&D, GM is obviously trying to "up the market".
Sorry you guys are pissed about being spanked by a "Trailer Park Queen".
Tell ya watt (bright idea...), 'Vette guys...
See Jenny Craig about that 400 lbs., give me the $30K difference, and we'll go racing...
Evenly matched.
One last thing...
23 years later, the Corvette is again chasing the 944 Turbo.
This time the Porsche has an American heartbeat...
You guys should be gloating the fact of GM small blocks being put in cars that once terrorized them...

If you buy it, you'll be the butt of many Porsche jokes like this one;
What's the difference between a Porsche and a porcupine?
On a porcupine, the ****** are on the outside.

I could have had a 500+ hp '93 Rx7 with an LSX motor for cheaper than what I'm in my C5, but then I'd be missing the whole corvette tradition. The infamous wave. The Corvette meets. The corvette mountain runs. The things I wouldn't be able to do with that Rx7. Bastard cars are cool, but then you don't really fit in with any of the different car clubs(or unofficial clubs like I do). You're kind of an inbetween.
I still want to do an LS3 RX7 though...

Oh I think you're high. The C3 was a natural evolution hampered by 70s idiocy. The C4 is the black sheep.

I love an early C3 with the big block and side pipes.

Here, I fixed it for ya...Are you actually trying to convice people that the 948 is a better value and better performance platform than a C6 Z06?
Jealousy? OMG that is too funny! Dude, be happy with what you have, but please shut up.

Are 2 1/2 to 3 seconds 0-60, 23 years of technology, much better looks, better ride, better handling..etc worth 40 Grand? Absofreakenlutely

As an update as this thread seems to be still alive somehow...
I met with a few guys locally with modified porsche 951s (944 turbos)... I also read a lot on porschehybrids.com Nice, fun cars but definitely not a c5 z06.
BTW to properly perform an LS1 swap with proper brakes etc you are looking at more like 20K without any suspension upgrades, a 100K mile transaxle, German reliability in everything else in an almost 25 year old car with the associated part prices, and resale fitting to a bastardized car and a c5 z06 is lighter than a c6 z06 for those counting weights. More like 2800 lbs 944-3000 lbs c5 z. I am not sure how the insurance would compare but I bet they would be a lot closer than one would think figuring the difference in the prices of parts.
I went with the Z in july 08 and haven't looked back since! I fall in love with this car more every time I drive it. The only thing I prefer in the 944s is the emergency mini backseat (even though our baby seat would not fit anyhow and he fits just fine shotgun in the vette) and the steering is much less vague in the porsche.

You mean it took you this long to find the ***** to answer that?
You're an idiot.
And probably became one in less than 3.7 seconds.
Absofreakenlutely.
Now, it's fixed.
Got your money ready?
I'll take my Trailer Park Queen out "dancing" on some Zs...

Now that the BS is out of the way...
Both cars have their positive and negative aspects.
Some prefer the Corvette Z06, some the 944 V8 Conversion, others lean toward an LS powered RX7. V8 powered Miata? Some like those...
I was merely relaying a few generalities (notice I said "optimistic") pertaining to each car, and I also offered a GM LS engine "shameless plug" at the end. If I am selling anything, it would have to be the versatility of the GM V8.
hpfiend asked to be talked out of something, and I was offering some colorful motivation and general stats, as well as some light-hearted response to the "less than polite" stabs in other posts. The bottom line is, we're using GM V8s, and for an overhead valve, pushrod V8 engine, they accomplish many great things.
Nat04Z06, Unwad your panties, investigate your 0-60 times a little further, and open your mind a little to other GM based conversions. For a worn out, 25 year old Porsche with it's share of "undesireables", a V8 converted car makes a lot of sense...
Especially when the end result is Fast-as-Hell.

Listen girls, i don't care what times you quote or any other bullcrap you put out there about how wonderful your dream rides (LOL) are to you. To me and just about everyone on this forum, they're garbage. Nothing more, nothing less. Throw away, worthless junk. Matter of fact, the thought of driving one...
Oh by the way, thanks for caring enough to join our Corvette community too. Now, back to the trailor park with all of you!

Not to start a debate but out of mere curiosity what sort of tires/ differential/suspension are you running to smoke a z06 from a dead stop with limited slip differential and 295 rear tires from the factory? Have you converted to a solid axle 8.8 or 9" with ladder bars and drag radials with a mini tub or flares?

HAHAHA, your an idiot. 0-60 is 4.6sec 0-100 10.2sec 1/4 11.9 @125.3mph - (and a free escort off the track for lack of roll cage) I have 475 reasons (and -400lbs) to not give a fuzzy poo when a stock zo6 rolls up next to me....... In my experience most Corvette owners can't drive and the magazines 3.? sec turns into 4-5 seconds as they figure out how to correctly feather the pedal.

I have an 944 Turbo. Only engine modification is mass air flow sensor + chip and I'm putting down 252RWHP.. around 300HP crank? It weights about 2800lbs-2900lbs and I love it (had it for 5 years). C5s are also cheap and get great mpg. I'm on these forums because I have a thing for the C3s styling
I would just go 944 turbo as you get the complete package (larger brakes and all). I have doubts this car will depreciate much more so resale value shouldn't be a concern...
