Talk me out of this...
Okay guys-
Tough question-
Why would you want a c5Z over one of these?

The only thing I can come up with is resale but the z doesn't have the emergency backseat for babies.

Couple reasons I can think of. Primarily the C5Z is a much prettier car. Also the C5Z will be easier and cheaper to maintian. Porsche parts are VERY expensive and there are some parts required for the engine swap that could be very difficult to find at any price. The perception many people have is that the Porsche LS1 hybrid would be lighter than the C5Z. Not sure on this, but I would bet a beer on the Porsche LS1 hybrid actually weighing a little more than a C5Z.

Depends on if you live in a house or a double-wide.
C5z - looks good next to a real house in a real garage
ghey 944 - looks good next to a double-wide under an awning
your choice though

the transaxle situation sounds like a headache whether you fit the corvette unit or somehow get the porsche to hold up. It would seem so much more do-able with conventional transmission up front and a ford 9" in back, but that might not even fit (?) and would destroy the character of the car (I've seen a butchered solid axle swap into a C-3, made the thing look like it was set up for mud bogging, even though the fabricating skills were pretty good).
Great engine swap intentions often get stuck in the execution stage. Swapping transaxles could seem like a whole 'nother swap job, adding to the risk of never getting done.

I've always liked the looks of the 944. They are total crap stock and a money *****. But they are lighter than a ZO6, and with an LS3 in it make identical HP. I have a fully built LT4 in mine (Cali smog is easier on OBD1 engines) and have raced C5 old gen ZO6's and unless they had s/c or NOS they were unhappy. Still the back seat really isn't for humans, my 7 year old fits but maybe once he's 12 he won't also baby seats will NOT fit. I still want a Vette but it's gonna be a C6 Z51 w/forced induction of some sort. Good luck with whatever you do.
944 turbo transaxle will hold up to most abuse, however 450-500#' is about it's limit. The good news is you'll scatter the axles before any major damage is done to the tranny.

This was done at probably 1/2 what a z06 costs and insurance is a lot cheaper.

If you want to talk ugly as sin, let's talk C3 Corvette. That is a partial abortion that was born. C4-C5-C6 and the early 60's vettes were the only nice looking ones. And the Porsche 928......
Really? Who thought this was a good idea?
