That was alrdy expected. The ACR is a track car not a top end monster. The aerodynamics create 1000lbs of downforce at over 100mph while on the regular 08 str10 the downforce at the same speed is merely a 100lbs!!
and the top speed of the regular str10 is 12-14 mph more than the acr.( could be more i forgot the numbers )

NO, its that people here don't know anything about down force STR10 Coupes ALL go over 200, hell Gen 2's went 185+ in 1996 and over 190+ in the ACR models. FYI the 08 Viper averaged 197mph, with the top down The coupe top speed will be right there with the ZR1, same hp, same weight. Its six gear is an overdrive, but all Vipers come stock with 3.07 gears, more of a highway gear. I still sense sour grapes from those ring times. There really is no need for it, as I said before the ZR1 is a GT car, ACR is a track car.

Top speed is about aerodynamics and HP, not weight and HP.
You know the ACR isn't as clean as the ZR1 in aero.
Does the ACR actually use 6th gear for top speed? The 2008 ACR specs I found mentioned a .5 6th and a 3.07 final, which is certainly not great gearing for top speed. The ZR1 actually has a usable sixth, and in fact uses it in the top speed video floating around on the web.
Also, 19X vs 20X is the difference between a Z06 and a ZR1. Those last few mph really cost.

It's interesting to me that the 1990 ZR-1 averaged higher than 173 for over 24 hours. Certain the Viper was hampered by the wings, but with 600HP you'd think it could still go faster than low 170s - and that was after lowering the suspension.

I sense a Viper apologist.

Well your sense is off , Ive had more vettes than anything i am neutral(my avatar is my Z06 plate) just like to educate people who obviously only know the Viper through google searches. Regardless new SRT vipers are clocking the same as the ZR1's. Fact, I really did think the ZR1 was going to have more top end and more RWHP, as did other people. So far the only thing that is living up to its expectations is the comfort. Its been beat at the ring, the RWHP #'s aren't what people thought it would be, top speed isn't any better the the base 86k Viper coupe, hopefully they can get some stock 10 second 1/4 times out of it, if they don't , this car is going to be a bust, for the money(and looks), Both Z06 and Viper IMO are better choices.

Of course I like the Viper, but the C6 Z06 makes a strong case for the Vette folks. Put on some good rubber and add a little bit of HP (+75) and you probably have equal performance with the ZR1. And naturally aspirated to boot! Sure, you don't have the carbon ceramic brakes, but I'd be very curious how much difference these make in the real world. Unless you feel the Z06 is uncomfortable to drive, the ZR1's case is pretty weak vs the Z06. The only caveat would be if big HP increases (more boost) is easy to come by in the ZR1 (i.e. - Ford GT). Time will tell with this one...
