The Panoz is finally ready for VIR next weekend
Car is finally ready for VIR next weekend.
Hoosier R6s
Motor checked over w/ new plug wire boots
5" autometer tach installed. I custom made a plug for the harness so I can still take the dash out w/o having to un-mount or un-wire the tach. In testing it's much better than having to look down at the PI digital dash sytem. Still using the PI setup for oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp, battery volts.
New Firefox fire system. Was able to modify the lines and bottle holder from the old system to work w/ the new on. Old bottle was too old to pass NASA tech and had no pressure. Set it up to spray into the engine bay and on the driver.
Converted the 4 hood supports into hood hold-downs. Hood flopped around to the point of distraction at VIR. Now the car has 110 more rwhp and weights 150lbs less so it'll be more of an issue. Hood won't be going anywhere now. Basically I bought 2 hood pin kits cut and welded them to the hood supports, then measured and drilled the hood etc.
Ready to go!

Car is making 307 rwhp now and weighs a smidge under 2600lbs. Check out the stock 5.0 dyno compared to the new heads/cam/carb setup. So we're up 110 rwhp and about 40 ft/lbs but with a much better rpm range. I have a 6500 rpm chip in the MSD box, but we'll only spin the car to 6k for engine block safety... over-taxed 5.0s have been known to split in 1/2 when run over 6500 rpms for a long time.

Bone stock 5.0 with FMS shorty headers, e-fan, and a K&N filter. Car was gutless after 4500 rpms.
Now its' got AFR 165s, Ed Curtis cam, and an Edelbrock intake w/ a pro-system road race carb on top. Still using FMS shorties w/ the side-pipes because it's require custom headers to do LTs. Car sould pick up some power w/ LTs, but it's built around NASA ST2.
Currently w/ all the corrections etc. we're at 8.92 lbs/power. Class min. for ST2 is 8.7lbs/power so we're right where we want to be.

smart pinning the hood I did the same but used the front two outside supports as pins. My car is sold, but my friend Manny Platis is running his down here in NASA TT, he is doing good with it, a few class wins in TTS, some engine mods, but still efi, but holly intake and heads, he had a little off with the hoosiers and rain last homestead event, but the car faired really well, most of the marks buffed out the the physically damage was like less than $200 parts. I miss mine you did a good job brian. PS what you doing with the coilovers, for the c5 or another car?

Yes, a lot of us have other cars we race and it is more appropriate in this section than other cars. I would never look over there for this post and it has everything to do with racing and it is just incidental it is another car.
It is just like all the posts in here about F1, NASCAR, etc. Those posts are about racing just like this one.

Looks good Brian! I knew you had been working on sorting the Panoz out for some time, but I haven't been following this forum as regularly. Should be a BLAST with the new setup, that's a serious change in HP/# ratio vs. the old motor.
Have fun, stay safe, shoot lots of pictures!
