A friend of mine that I have known since high school is a very hard core RX-7 fan, he has a nice 1982 that he has done alot of work to (in terms of restoration), he has owned a handful of them over the years. You have a beautiful example of a car there.... best of luck on your sale

Back in 1979, I went and got a full quote for one of these. I still remember the bottom line:
$9000.00
Unfortunately, I had been working at my first full-time job for only 2 months and the credit union shot me down. I then went out and bought a 1968 C3 vert with 35,000 miles on the odo for $5000. That car's value never went anywhere but up, but for sure, the RX7 was a better-handling car.

Long time since I talked to you.
I remember seeing adds for $6995. and every year they seemed to go up about a thousand. One of my friends picked up a GSL in 1982 and I believe he paid $12,000 or so. I remember putting a rotary engineering exhaust system on my car and a bread tie on the carb. Complete transformation! It was like a different car, it hauled azz.

Hey, Chris - good to see you're still around.
I had so much fun with my first car, an RX4 with "MAZDA" mirror strip at the top of its windshield and speakers built into the back seats. I proceeded to buy two RX3s before trying to buy the 1980 RX7. It wasn't until 1986 before I bought another RX3.
A "bread tie"? I never heard of that mod!

I need to do some searching, but I can't remember ever taking a picture of the RX4. This why I made it a point to take pictures of each of my kid's first car. The RX4 was totaled when I was racing a guy in a BMW 2002tii and had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting someone entering the highway. My car slammed into a concrete wall (diagonally) and I walked away without a scratch. My search for an RX3 coupe initially turned up empty, so I picked up an RX3 wagon. The original owner had mounted a chrome fish on the hood, so the car stood out (good or bad) in a crowd. After finally finding a nice RX3 coupe, I sold the wagon to my mother. The coupe was sold to a coworker's son after I bought the 68 C3 vert. All that happened in Connecticut. My last rotary Mazda, a 73 RX3, was purchased here in San Diego in 86 and was donated to St Vincent de Paul in 97.
Back in 1980 or so, I convinced a friend to buy a used Mazda Cosmo (76). Needless to say, I was a rotary fanatic!
