I've heard (read) conflicting things. Is it?

The Chrysler marketing guy was on Adam Carolla's CarCast this weekend, he stated there were no plans to offer any Viper past 2010, pending the brand's "re-evaluation". He stated we could see another Viper as early as 2012... but he wouldn't speculate on the direction Chrysler will take the brand (whether it will still be a RWD roadster/coupe with a large engine). Your guess is as good as anyone's!

When Volkswagon took over Porsche, the directive was very clear - Sell more cars. Thus, VW will come out with lower-cost Porsches, get rid of those that sell the least, and reduce the cost of existing models. This is Marketing 101 and the same directive is being sent down the ranks at GM, Chrysler, and many other manufacturers. The Viper has historically been a slow-seller, so if it does come back, expect a lower-cost version or a lower-cost single version. Whether the ZR1 survives depends upon how well it sells. Gone are the days when a "Halo" vehicle can survive year after year as a loss-leader or slow-mover. The basic Corvette and even the Z06 have had fairly healthy sales for many years. This is why they are much more safe from the chopping block.
