C5 Z06 to 645ci.....Downgrade?
Hi,
I currently own a 2003 Z06 and absolutely love it, but I'm currently selling it to get into something a little more practical, with a back seat/trunk and perhaps something I could use all year round. I've been looking at a few options. I've been looking at 06 STS-V, 05/06 CTS-V, 09 G8 GT, 10 Mustang GT. I've never really been into the Imports, as I'm a pretty hardcore GM guy, but the 645ci coupe has really caught my attention. I wanted to ask, and yes I know this is a Vette forum, but I'm hoping since this is in the 'other car forum' I may get some unbiased responses. Would you say going from a 2003 Z06 to a 2004/2005 645ci would be a downgrade? Of course saying there in the same condition. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Testdrove the 650 (among others like R8, XK-R & 911) before buying my Vette.
The BMW was the most boring, ugliest car (inside AND outside) of the whole bunch - and I had several BMW earlier!
Plus the 645 engine feels much weaker than the 650 - so I guess my answer is DON´T!!!

From a sheer performance and fun factor standpoint..... yes its a downgrade but in terms of refinement and practicality then no its not a downgrade..... 2 totally different cars in my opinion. I happen to think that the 6 series coupe is a beautiful car. If your budget allows why not look at an M6 as it will offer much similar performance to your Z06.
Some other cars that you may want to look at (that have backseats/4doors) are Audi S4, E55/63 Mercedes, BMW M3, BMW M5, Jaguar S Type R, Infiniti G37, Lexus IS 350..... these are all well performing practical cars (some are downright fast). I have often thought about having just one car that does everything well and no matter what there is always some type of compromise. Good luck with whatever decision you decide to make.

I drove a 645 convertible a while back. I'm sure they're not slow, but they feel so smooth and "boring" ("refined" might be the better word), that it doesn't feel very fast. It's a good grand tourer, like the SL, but you can't compare it to the Z.

The cars are apples an Oranges. It's one of those cars you wont even notice you're going under the speed limit. The direction you're going in is a bit extreme Imo.
From the list above, I much rather an M3 or IS350 if I wanted practical unboring refinement
