What do you think?
Hi everybody, I was reading reviews on 2010 mustang gt the other day and I can't understand some of the test results. Motor trend for example claims that the stang will run 0-60 in only 4.9 sec. What I do not get is how a 3500-3600 lb car that has 325 lb ft of torque be almost half a second faster than 3250 lb car with 360 lb ft of torque ( my auto 01 vette)
Are the conditions under which they test the cars so different from the real world? Is it the fact that they have superior drivers that test the cars? or maybe they get paid to make false claims?
Mustang is not the only example, I have had 06 350z with headers, exhaust, CAI, racing clutch, short throw 6 spd, front tires 245, rear 275, and I could only run 0-60 5.9-6.3 sec. ( and I have had most of my cars with manual) According to their reviews, a bone stock 06 Z will do it in 5.5-5.6? What is it that I don't understand??? i'm very confused, i wish there was a place where I could find true times, that would be close to the real world.

Well, usually the test are done with professional drivers in the seat under the best conditions on a track.
The Mustang may have a really low gear that helps it to get going, which in turn helps the 0-60 times (I have not checked to see the gear ratio on the Mustangs so this is a educated guess)
Your Vette may have the 2.73 rear gear on your A4, but if you do a 3.42 swap your 0-60 times will increase tremndously and MPG will only differ slightly worth every penny to do this change on an A4 - I did
If you want real world times go to www.dragtimes.com and you will find what you seek.
Thanks,Matt

Why in the world was this moved to other cars when it is clearly a comparison to his Vette -

Thanks,Matt

Matt, first thank you for advise! i am definately intersted in doing the swap. i am in medical field and do not know much about cars (but trying hard to learn as much as possible very day) Could you explain to men first of all how do i find out what my current ratio is? and if you know, what does it cost approximately to change it.

Depending on your year your RPO codes will either be in the Glove Box or the Rear Compartment cover (If I remember it'll be the passenger side)
What year do you have?
When you look through the option codes on that list there will be on the list either a:
GU2 Axle, Rear ratio 2.73 ( )
G90 Axle Raer Ratio 3.15 ( )
G92 Axle Rear Performance Ratio
Here is a link to Corvette Action Center you can look up your year specific, but I did a 2000 model (Codes are the same throughout the years) look down the list and you can identify what your Vette has:
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/.../2000rpos.html
On this page you can select your year and then on that page you can look at all the specifications by choosing the links to the left side:
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c5/
The other way you can do it is by jacking the Vette up in the back and there will be a metal tag attatched to the rear end and it will have the specs on it
If you decide to go with 3.42's you will need to get either a handheld tuner to change the ration on the PCM or have it Dyno tuned and have the tuner do it for you!
Here is a list of how the gears make a difference in RPM at certain MPH:
You can pick-up a used rear end with the 3.42's from a stock MN6 speed for around $400-$500 easy (All manual 6 speeds have them from the factory, that's it no other option for the manuals unless they go aftermarket) - Installation should be around $300-$400 (You have to drop the whole rear cradle)
Remember that by doing the 3.42 alone can net you a 1/2 second in the 1/4 mile and feel like you added 50+ RWHP

Here is to cases in point - just a little higher than what I said for the price but all is still pretty low: Remember if you have the 3.15's those can be sold and some money recouped-
