2011 Mustang GT a ZO6 eater?
Im sure that a lot of you guys/gals have seen/read the latest editions of Motor Trend/ Car and Driver about the upcoming GT Mustang able to eek out a 4.3 to 60 and 12.9 qt. I know that the Gt is considerably heavier and has nowhere near the horsepower of the ZO6, but do you think its concieveable that with minor bolt-ons (headers,CAI ,tuning) the GT could be a pain in the ***? I think i know the answer but I would love your opinions.

its basically going to be similar to an 03 cobra in weight and performance...the 03 cobra stock was running low 13s and hitting 12.8s and 12.9s stock. The car has about the same hp and weight ratio. Once again mod for mod the z06 will be faster and better. Ford always will add hp and then add another 300lbs..and from what i hear the sticker price is from 37k-40k not for a mustang gt. no thanks.

Also as said above compare that to a car made a decade ago and those numbers were beat without a thought of a mod. As these cars become older newer technology will allow others to become faster. Yet just compare the 2011 mustang gt to a C6 z06..your back to comparing basically a 2002 gt to an 02 z06...

i bet no one even looks at most mustangs twice.
every day someone comments on my 01 torch red Z06.
knowing that it is faster then most other vehicles is enough for me.

yeah i'd agree, it's right on par with the 03/04 cobras. has about the same power and weight of a cobra as well. the new 4v 5.0 should respond very well to simple bolt ons, but that's where most people will stop as they'll need FI since without displacement on their side...

I was a long time Mustang Gt owner before I moved up the Z06. The Gt's I owned were form 87 thru 93 fun cars but no comparsion to my
Z06.
I am putting down 585RWHP a GT might want to think twice if they roll up on me. 585's not huge numbers but light to light its a monster from a roll stand by.....

I'm also a former multiple fox body mustang owner and they were fun in a straight line with lots of mods, I had one running low 10's. But, the Z06 is just a complete performance package. The new GT will probably be a fun car to drive(I'll let you know, my uncle is a salesman at Galpin). But, it won't be on par with our cars.

Well, they run an 11.82 with slick/skinny, K&N, off-road x-pipe and a tune.
I'm not at all scared of them. LOL
Our cars run into the 11's with a CAI.
According to the fast list, a bone stock Z06 can run into the 11s alone.

Standard they come with 19x8.5 rear wheels (18x10.5 in the C5Z) which means the Z has more rubber touching the road and therefore is able to put more power down without spinning.
You also have to factor in the drag coefficient of the two cars. The 2011 GT is rumored to have a .38 coefficient to the C5Z's .29. From a roll, wind resistance will be a huge factor for the GT, where as the C5Z is much more slippery though the air.
Add all these factors together and while the 2011 GT will be a quick car, no doubt about it, a C5Z will still walk all over it on the strip, road and around a track. A C6Z will absolutely demolish it.

Also keep in mind the aerodynamics... anything from a roll over 60 will be a very fast walk away if it had not happened lower down with the weight difference.
I love the throwback style of the new mustangs, but the C5 Z is what I want for a new toy regardless.
When I had my 99 Formula putting down 385 RW, mustangs with similar numbers would hold their own until I got to third, then I would just walk away with the better drag coefficient of the formula. I imagine it would be very similar with the comparrison currently being debated.

The 2011 Mustang GT with light mods will be a good competitor to a stock C5 z06. Anyone debating that just has blinders on because they are obsessed with their car. For one thing, it's only been tested on the track by reviewers...no doubt that some very competent drivers will be able to run it further into the 12's in stock form. It may never be as good on the road course stock, but with some mods it might come close...if not better than a stock C5 z06.
The new Mustang is going to be a great car, and it's about time that Ford addressed some of the things that made it undesireable. With a few mods, it's going to be able to make a lot of guys out there in nice cars think twice about challenging it.

I like what Ford's done with the 'Stang, and wouldn't mind owning one again, but you can't compare it to a C5Z in any performance area. One major problem that Ford owners have, is the inability to do any extensive performance mods, and remain NA. The complexity of OHC motors make them very difficult/expensive for shade-tree type mechanics to boost HP without power adders. It's incredibly easy for LS owners to get over 500 flywheel HP from their motors, and still retain decent fuel consumption, a feat that Ford can't match with their "mod" motors.
