My almost stock 87 Grand National runs 13.0's on pump gas in the 1/4 at 3700#'s. It's just got a chip, injectors and fuel pump upgrade from stock. It still uses the stock airbox.

I also interpret the OP original post as meaning classic American Muscle Cars, which include the time period of the Mid 1960s through early 1970s (1964 through 1972).

Mazda's rotary cars were all rear drive, and when pollution controls were taking their toll on V8 pony cars, the RX series got praise. Those early '70s RX2s, 3s had the acceleration of a midsize V8 family car, but from a tiny engine. They also came with a 4 speed stick, which was sporty for the day. Heavy on gas though, the only import to drink like a V8.

Classic Rotary

I owned a business next door to a Mazda dealer. All the boys in the workshop had RX3's perifial ported, extend ported or turbo charged all 13B rotaries. One of them used to drive everywhere in his and would pull a 9 second quarter on a Friday night. These cars were light and Faaaaast. The only problem with rotaries they would wear out real quick. 60 thou on a standard motor and they were ready for a rebuild.

Those were with the Yamaha V6 engine. The later mid 90s (weak) models came with the small displacement Yamaha V8.

Really guys, because there's been various cars manufactured that do this. Most notably the MR2 with the 4AGZE.

It's just a clutch, a person with basic mechanical knowledge can figure that out.

(With that said yes, the Madmax blower WAS fake though.)

Default on the chevy side ..

I spend alot of time with Chevy guys ,being one myself , and the word spoken everywere is that a 69/70 Nova with the 375 horse /396 was the quickest of the bunch ..set up the right way ..
Power to weight was better than a 454 ls6 Chevelle ...

Was that same motor available in the Camaro in 1969? If so, was the Nova quicker than the Camaro with the same setup?

RX-3 was a popular car in IMSA RS (Racing Stocks) class in the '70s and '80s. GM were working on a rotary engine for the Corvette and I imagine it would have been a 4 rotor unit, like 2 x 13B, giving the equivalent of 5.2 liters displacement. A fascinating what if. I am imagining one in a C3. That said, I wonder if Corvette buyers would have accepted it? GM thought all engines would be rotary in the future, many companies felt that way before the gas crisis.

BMW 6 series was an interesting car, just needed more engine. I know many do 400ci sb V8 swaps/conversion kits into Jag XJ-S, wonder if anyone has done that for the 6 series?

GMC Syclone and Typhoons. Most people still don't know what they are and certainly underestimate them. Know it's not a 6-71 or the typical roots blower, but many of the AMG Mercedes blowers are electromagnetically activated when it senses full throttle. Not turning otherwise, so no parasitic loss. Same concept at least. Speaking of that, the Mercedes E500 was a wolf in sheep's clothing. Brawny V8, with wide hipped, aluminum body work.

NSU Ro80

Completely different car sans drivetrain, turbo TA's still ran 13's stock., regular GN's are capable of some crazy times, those engines were built solid , 87 GN's regularly whipped corvettes at the strip, talk about holding value, and going up,nice GN's are more than original sticker, the GNX even in this weak market go for 70's, an a/c equiped 10 second GN will be my defiantly be my next car
