Default McLaren MP412C

I am selling my company, semi-retiring and wanting to give myself a gift for years of hard work. I have a 1000HP Vette, a 700+ HP 911TT, 700+ HP CTSV, but want one car that I dont modify and dominate the track and really qualifies as a "supercar". I have concerns about reliability and depreciation. I have done all the research and decided on the new McLaren. The latest numbers put it at 0-60 in 2.8 sec or less and a weight of a little over 2800 #. McLaren has/is setting up dealerships and I have an invitation to view and drive the car in October and November. I looked at the Ferrari Italia and although a beautiful and quick car with excellent handling I think the McLaren will will have a mystique that the Ferrari will not. Dont want a Lambo, Mosler, or another Porsche (although I would take a Porsche Spyder is it didnt cost so much). I cant think of any other cars out there that will offer the price/performance ratio the McLaren will. Any GOOD ideas?

I will come by and pick it up..just let me know when. I am on the other side of the state

McLaren is my #1 choice if I ever had the means so to say I am a bit jealous is an understatement....

I think the McLaren will be an awesome car. If things work out I would like it to be my next car but all depends on how business goes. I currently have a Gallardo. Being an engineer that worked automotive design the Mclaren is beautiful to me. I appreciate that the McLaren is function over form. However I admit I still think my Gallardo looks better but looks are a personal thing and I know the McLaren will be much better performance.

I assume you have gone to the Supercar weekend in Palm Beach last few years. This gives you a LOT of supercars to consider.

What is your price range? Around 300k?

Hard to beat a McLaren for the value. But, if it would be me, I would go with one of two cars. (if I spent more than the normal exotic)

koenigsegg CCX
or
New SSC Ultimate Aero II (MY Gosh!!)

I think if I were in your situation, I'd strongly consider a Heffner Twin Turbo Ford GT above anything else in the $250K to $300K range. But, the McLaren would be a strong runner up. It's a win win situation.

Congrats on being in a situation to afford a car like that!

Thanks for all the feedback. I would really like a Ford GT but like I said, I am tired of modified cars. I want the last one (Sports Car) to be thing of beauty and performance in every sense of the word.

If I was going to spend over 400K$ I think I would wait for the Porsche 918 Spyder. Although not nearly as fast as the SSC I know the reliability will be unquestionable and certainly performance will be beyond what Porsche claims. Further, I personally dont believe their is a better looking car that will be produced in the next 2-3 years.

I second the CCX - that's my dream car, well CCXR.

My dad has a McLauren SLR - it's a pretty impressive car. Good luck on your decision.

HUGE difference between a SLR and a McLaren MP4-12C. One is made by MB with input from McLaren. The MP4-12C is 100% McLaren...................same as the F1.

MP4-12C is to the F1 as the Camaro is to the ZR1.

Same company, similar in a lot of ways, but one is in a different league.

Personally, the new McLaren looks like a generic supercar. Something drawn by a kid in study hall.

I'd be looking at some sort of 599 Ferrari myself.

........and you have driven one? I will make my final intelligent decision when I drive one in November. Having raced two 599's on and off the track and made minced meat of both of them (in my Z06 no less) I certainly will not be buying one.

Take a look at the design (on their website if you need help) and then draw a conclusion. The only new car that comes close to their ingenious engineering insight is the Porsche Spyder. However, I will not spend over 500K$ on a car.

The 599GTO is on the table. There is YOUR opportunity!

Well stated and very honest. I like the Lambos but their exterior design are just too far over the top for my taste. I do wish you the best of luck with the Gallardo.

Yes I have..........the only cars that turns me on are the Ford GT TT's.
I have an invitation (free) to attend the Festival of Speed in Orlando. I am looking forward to it as it will be quite a bit larger than the PB show.

The Pagani Zonda is THE Hypercar to get! There's a new Tricolore edition this year, before the new model is introduced. 678 hp should be enough The new Mclaren looks way too plain.

I like that! I would go over my imposed price range for that one

taking a second look at the Heffner, well, I am impressed. I assume you buy the car and send it off to Heffner? I am going to look into this one

Huh? You asked for opinions and I gave you mine. Seems like your mind is already made up. <shrugs shoulders>

Dial back the condescending tone man ("on their website if you need help") ... I was just offering up my opinion. The MP412C looks kind of plain in the super car realm. Shoot, even the name is forgettable. Especially considering it comes from the people that made the F1. In my opinion the greatest super car ever made.
