Default New 5.0 Mustang... at the track

I was at the drag strip this Sunday and had the pleasure of racing a new 5.0. Running n/a, he got me on the launch and I could not catch him . The dude said that his mods were a cat-back, CAI, nitto d/r's and a tune, he was running low to mid 12s, with 1.9 0-60s. I raced him again with the juice and got him, but damn. I did not realize those cars were that fast!!! Quickest time I saw him run was 12.10.

Anyone else have the pleasure of getting blasted by a new Pony?

I gotta believe he was hiding something.
Low 12's is too low for stock (5.0) and I don't see anyone using DR's stock.

He was fibbing......

^ you need to do some reading. The cars are upper 12's on stock tires. DR's, intake and exhaust and i can see it easily. I bet he's tuned as well so it's totally believeable. It'll take a bolt on C5 to be even with them. They make 100hp more than the C5's and aren't much heavier(400lb's or so)Don't see alot of stock C5's(non-Z06's) in the upper 12's without some mods. The new 5.0's are no joke as Ford has stepped up the game with them. I've only had the pleasure of running one 5.0 Mustang and i beat him by 4-5 cars. He had exhaust(i think intake as well)

Yea, reading on magazines that they run 12s is different than real world, since most drivers are pro. Needless to say, this woke me up and I have a whole new respect for that new car... Still rather have my vert

We all know that in the real world a Mustang isn't capable of beating a Corvette.

I've only seen one run at my local track and his best time was 13.5 but he didn't appear to be able to launch well yet. That same night I was spinning real bad and my best time was a 12.79 on a 1.95 60ft.

The C5 is more or less running engine technology from 1997, as there was no significant horsepower increase. I think they have stood up pretty well.

I would have to disagree. The C5 is exactly what it used to be. Everything else has changed though

at the end of the day, they are in a mustang, you are in a vette

i'm just saying. They are no joke. there are probably guys in the mid 12's with them if they are good drivers and maybe others that are bad drivers and doing mid 13's. There was a thread not long ago of a new ZR1 doing a mid 14. Does that mean they are 14 second cars? I'm not gonna argue here with anybody and i'm so far from a Ford fan you can't even imagine but credit needs to be given where credit is due here guys. The C5's are 6-13 years old now and technology has surpassed what was used on the C5's. I love my car but unless you mod them they will keep falling back. Look at C1's-C3's. Most of them are SLOW compared to alot of todays cars.

I started this thread only to inform, and some have taken it to mean other than that. I was just pointing out that the Pony is a sweet car and extremely capable. I know we all read what the magazines say, but to get real world experience is a different thing. This was not to say that the stang is better that the vette, or otherwise. Just trying to be objective and state facts. I love the vette and the pleasure it brings while driving!!!

Sorry, my mistake. My forte is killing people! I consider most of the folks on this forum Corvette guys, not car guys.

I haven't had the chance to run into one yet, but I'm not looking forward into finding one that's boosted. Boost is the only thing keeping me ahead of the bolt-on 5.0's.

Think about that - a 13 year old design that is just now being beaten by a Mustang. There is no shame at all for the C5. Of course, you can buy a $17,000 C5, throw a $5,000 Vortech S/C on it and end up with about 500 RWHP or 580 crank HP. The mustang guys have been using similar formulas for years. Now it's our turn - a $22,000 car that destroys a new GT or 911, or M3, etc, etc.
