Personal Best - 10.931 @ 129.33 mph - Stock 08 Viper w/street tires
I know it's no Corvette, but thought I'd share the results of a local test n tune night here in Dallas.
Went to Dallas Raceway in Crandall, TX on Friday Nov 5, 2010 and although it was cold, it was a great night at the track. Track prep was excellent in 50F weather, with some of us getting 1.7-1.8 60' on street tires! I will admit, the only thing I worried about all week, was my tires, since they were on their very last leg. Traction on the street was very difficult with about ~20,000 miles on this set of tires the past couple of weeks, but man did they perform flawlessly at the track. I was consistently hitting 1.7x 60's when I launched hard enough, and I couldn't be any happier with these tires!
I bought dry ice to cool the intake manifold down, but actually ran better when I was hot lapping the car. The 10.931 pass was the 3rd pass in a row. I hit 3 different 11.0x passes earlier in the night before finally landing the 10.931 @ 129.33 mph. On the last pass, I had every intention of leaving my transmission in my lane, fighting to get in the 10's, even chirping the tires on my 3-4 shift .
Here's a copy of the slip:
Although I love racing at the track, this is probably going to be my last time to race the Viper at a track. I am very fortunate that my car performed without any hiccups, and that I was able to drive it home after 7 different 11 sec. passes tonight, before running the 10.9. A couple of friends had to have their Vette's towed home after launching on DR's (not a dig at Vette's, I'm a huge fan), so I was even more thrilled by my car. The Viper has exceeded every expectation I could have imagined from a stock car. Although it's not EXACTLY the way it came from the factory, I don't have any mods that add power to the car (lost 7whp when pulling the mufflers), but this car just has to be a factory freak. In the last 6,000 miles, I have not had to add even a drop of oil to the motor (doesn't burn any oil), and I'm still on the original motor and transmission after almost 33,000 VERY hard miles.
The reason I was wanting to run at the track, was to prove to some internet loud mouth on the Viper Club, that these cars can't run 10's on street tires, and you don't have to be some super hero to do it. He was too caught up on swinging from Evan Smith's nuts, he refused to listen to anyone else. Fortunately, I get the last laugh.
BTW, I know rap music sucks on car videos, but this video will be one of the few times I use it. It's at the very beginning and the end, with no music when the car is actually running. There is also in-car footage at the very end.
Enough talk, here's the video:

I drove Kumar's Z06 to an 11.04 on Nitto Invo's before he built the 500ci motor. That was with launching the car, getting completely off of it b/c of wheel spin, and getting right back into it. He had a billet/carbon clutch that was pretty much just an on-off button, no real ability to slip the clutch at the launch. I believe the DA was about 2000 that night.

You are right on the money. I ran an 11.46 with a 2.0 60', when the DA was close to 3000, back in September. The weather will decide a lot about how well a car performs. Jamie Furman's record breaking 10 sec stock Z06, on a normal day (non-private track rental, hot weather) was consistently going 11.6-11.7, and his best was an 11.4 that day. The big records happen when the DA is negative.

Wow nice runs. A little wheel spin off the line may have made you even faster. Those guys got the jump on you. Hit it when you see the last yellow light. Don't wait to see the green.

Thank you! Just to clear it up, I purposely let them leave, and focused on slipping the clutch, rather than trying to cut a good light. My only goal that night was to run a 10.9x. Also, I think wheel spin is good for trap speed, not good for E.T.
