FORD GT is better IMO. More exotic looking. Who knows how collector value will be on the ZR1, but the FORD GT is very limited production also and since they only ran about 3 years, will surely be highly collectible, if they aren't already. The GT also takes to modding very well, if that is your thing.

Alot depends what you want to do with it......ZR1= easy comfortable daily driver......FGT= weekend cruiser and get alot of looks.
The ZR1 is losing value pretty quick right now but IMHO you will see them slow down once a used one becomes about the same price as a new Z06. But the cost of entry into the FGT is 150K + for a prime example and if you are going to drive it then you will probably lose as much value or more on it.
I own a 09 ZR1 and an 06 FGT.....I love both but the ZR1 is the perfect daily driver! If I could only keep one I would chose the ZR1

YeahI have been mulling over this as well. The gt is still selling for Msrp. Its a very special car that will hold its value in there future. The Zr1 will just be another old vette. With only 4000 built they only get more desirable. I've been looking at a never titled 05 that still has factory warranty. I want to be able to drive my car alot though and I would feel bad putting so many miles on a new Gt. I guess ill wait untilI an in the position to have 2 cars.

Sorry man, but that a duh question..... Ford GTs have been off production now for years and "still" selling for above msrp! Unless your talking about "mustag gt", then there are no comparison what so ever with a corvette ZR1. If "holding value" is a concern, your too late on a ford gt. Ford gt prices are still hovering above msrp but not more than 180K. To buy one in good condition to "hold value", you will still need to spend more than msrp price in 2005. Your late in that game. It will more than likely appreciate in value, but your looking at 20-30 more years! ZR1s are still in production and will continue to drop in price as long as they make them. So my friend, you cannot compare the "value" of a car that has been discontinued and produced in less numbers than a car currently in production and who's parent company is milking every dollar by shoving the same engine in a caddy and camaro. Buy a car, drive it and enjoy it. If your looking for an investment, buy a "prestine" ford gt for less than 120K, now thats a great deal. Good Luck!

Problem is the USD is collapsing so I'm looking for cool investments that will hold their value, I hate losing $
So I guess I'll have to go for the GT then look for a ZR1 at a nicely reduced cost

There will be a c7 z06 that will probably blow away the zr1. there might be a c7 zr1 that will make the current one 'fogotten'.
Will not happen to the Ford GT. Better interior, better exterior. True exotic compared to a 'regular' corvette with mods from the factory. No comparison at all unless you just care about numbers.

I eat, sleep and bleed GM, but I would not even consider a ZR1 over a FGT. That is the one and only Ford on my top 10 list.

The Ford GT may be the best car ever built. I would buy one and not look back. If you are concerned with performance throw a couple grand into a pulley change and tune and you will be faster than a ZR1.

If it is going to be your only car, then MAYBE it's a ligit question. Otherwise it's a no-brainer. Ford GT all the way. It's like the best of all worlds. Italian challenging styling and mid-engine layout with a V8 that sounds like a classic American muscle car.
Stock-for-stock, the ZR1 is a little faster based upon everything I've read, but who cares about the extra few tenths of a second. I'd buy a Ford GT over any italian exotic, including an Enzo.

Plus you must maintain, and insure them. I'd say you're going about this entirely the wrong way. Find your price-range, and get the car for the best deal you can afford and negotiate. Simple as that.
Cars are nearly always depreciating assets in a financial sense. Even the Ford GT. The real value is in the emotions of owning and experiencing what it has to offer. You can't really put a $ on that. If you buy a car to invest in, you surely won't be enjoying what it has to offer, other than the eye-candy. Anything other than extremely low-mileage vehicles don't seem to fare well as investment strategies. Even then, you have to pay just to keep it.
If you want to protect the value of a currency, buy a finite resource (like gold), if you want to invest, research an industry to the point of exhaustion and choose several stocks in companies you've researched and have multiple good reasons to expect them to perform well. Always play in industries you confidently understand.
