Not so. The Mustang is a fine car. The Corvette is a fine car. A Ferrari is a fine car. A Porsche is a fine car.

I'm not a Corvette snob. I appreciate all performance cars. YMMV.

Believe it or not I am a Ford guy for my DD truck and wifes SUV. Not that the Mustang isn't a fine auto they just never had the appeal of a Corvette to me. JMO

Different cars really. GT500 may have more HP but it is what it can do with them that matters. Solid rear axle and 500-600 lbs more really affects its use of that power. Obviously the 2010 Shelby isn't living up to what you expected since you are looking at trading it already. Start looking at trade in values for your Shelby. You may not want to trade it then.

2008 C6 and up has the LS3 which puts out 30 more HP then the 05-07. 2005s are 6 years old now. To give you an idea of actual price of a new 2011 Vette, I just paid $57.8k for my convertible, 3LT package. Probably about what the GT500 costs. You can get a 2008 for in the $30k range. Its warranty may still be good so you can get an extended if desired.

Cost-wise? My 2008 cost about the same to operate compared to my 07 Chevy Impala SS. The 08 was a lot more reliable also. The main exception was tires.

Your insurance may fall with a C6 instead of a Mustang. C6 has some of the best rates for all cars.

It just gets that much better.
Currently at 540 rwhp (635 hp flyweel) give or take

My current car a midish 11 sec @ 120+ mph 1/4 mile car (with drag radials and current mods. Faster if I had the driver mod)

With just a few bolt ons can the C6 compete with that?

I have heard the C6 LS3 responds well to mods and the curb weight is definitely a LARGE factor in performance. C6 wont have to make nearly as much HP to run with my Shelby.

Stock C6 runs about 12.3-12.5 quarter, 0-60 at 4.1 or so seconds on OEM street tires. LS3 can be bumped up to 500hp with no forced induction. Even at 4300 feet I break 5 seconds 0-60 without even trying hard and that was with my 08 and an auto tranny.

Thank you very much for your input. I too have been looking at the LS3 over the LS2.

Just for reference I picked my Shelby up with 1100miles on her used for just $42,500.

Kelley blue book (not that its that accurate) shows trade in value to be $48,500 private and $46,500 dealer trade in, so I did manage to get a decent deal and not get taken to the cleaners.

Good to hear on the insurance..did not realize the rates were so good. Another plus.

I am talking about a 08 or newer with exhaust mods and either gears or torque converter. Correct the C6 does not need much mods to smoke the GT500.

Definitely will look more towards the 2008+. Are there any special packages I should look for? Anything to watch out for?

Very nice performance #'s. Did not know they were low 12 second cars. Most I have seen in the area are in the 12.7-13.0 range, BUT most need the driver mod.

First off, beautiful Shelby - LOVE the Grabber blue. Excellent write up by LS WON.

I had a supercharged Saleen convertible, and loved it. Went for a ride in a friends Z06 and was blown away. Went back and my Saleen looked "different" after that ride. Sold it 5 days later and just purchased a built 06' Z06. Couldn't be happier. She puts down 605/555 at the wheels - almost too much (if I'm allowed to say that) - and its all engine. The power to weight ratio is off the charts. I enjoy it for cruising the twisties here in the mtns, but don't race it. If you're into performance, to include get up and go, get down and stop, straighline and twisties - there's no way you can go wrong with the Corvette.

Good luck - but the smile that's on your face when you drive your Shelby will grow exponentially from driving the Corvette.

I would pass on a 2005 C6, get the 08 LS3 as a minimum

I went from a gt500 to c6 and never looked back, my corvette is better in every category in my opinion.

A true car enthusiast does not have to like ALL cars. If you do not like the Mustang it does not make you a Corvette snob. If everybody liked everything, the world would be ridiculously mundane and boring. Competitive racing would be a big ghey get together (a love in, so to speak) I DO NOT like Mustangs, but I do know they are very popular with women.

I personally think op has no intention of getting a Vette.

Tony, I agree the OP has no intention of getting a Corvette.

And I didn't say I liked every performance car, but I do appreciate them, e.g the engineering, etc. An example is any of the Lotus models. Colin knew what he has doing, but I don't care for the fragile, uncomfortable little B@$!@^&s.

You don't have to like the new Mustangs GT. I think it is a good man's car. Any chicks driving that model will likely give you a run.
