Cold climate? What's that?

In IL, and with the wind chill it often drops to -10, -20 for days on end.

Not fun trying to turnover a Diesel in that kind of cold.

the CHP are fkn ****'s for trucks with lifts. They are removeable which is nice, so if I have to head out on the road, I just pull them from the bed.

Really? I've got a 6" lift and 35s and have never been hassled. Maybe they bother you because your tires stick out past the fender flares?

Dodge.....
Give me a allison transmission with a cummins motor and I'd buy it tomorrow.. All the trucks are nice now. Just depends on which one fits your needs.
Dodge hauls the toys.
GF came with her own Pickup. Black American coach GMC loaded so that does the light duty around the house.
Straight 4 inch exhaust, edge juice with attitude, and blocked off turbo.. 2000 3500,, . Just getting the new car smell out of her.

Diesels aren't all about HP, they are about TQ. But in most cases you are right: the Raptor's 6.2L V8 will pull around a lot of weight. The issue is the rest of the truck. Does it have the trans behind it to take shifts with 10k+ lbs (my trailer is about 17K loaded for example) behind it up a grade under power? Does it have the brakes to safely and repeatedly stop said trailer? Is the truck long and heavy enough to control the sway? And can the engine provide the type of additional braking a diesel with an exhaust brake can? The answer to all of these questions is: no.

Now, I'm not saying a Raptor can't tow anything but just because it has 400+ HP don't think it should be towing around more than any other F150.

Besides, my tow tune makes 450 RWHP and 900 RWTQ with just an intake, exhaust and tune. Let's see your power-house Raptor do that!

What era of diesels were you last exposed to? Any of the modern ones light of very quickly even in very cold weather (and all can be had with a block heater, which in those climates you'd need just as much in a gasser). One of my buddies sold his D'max to a guy way up in the north of Canada. The guy wrote him back about how great it is to just hit the remote start from his living room, wait about 5min and walk out to a warmed up truck with the heater already on even when it's minus a TON.

Sweet rig! But I'm curious why you'd run out to buy a truck if it had a Cummins backed by an Allison but you're not interested in a D'max/Allison? I'm not saying the Cummins isn't a bad *** motor, because it is. But the D'max is at least its equal. I'd say the D'max has been the better motor for at least a few years now actually.

@ Tjzo6.
I've straddled cummins for the past 34 years, and a few ***** cats.

There is nothing wrong with the D,max motor but I know what last in the trucking industry, and its just my preference from my experence.
525 TT cummins in big blue there with 2150torque and the same motor that is in my dodge is what Mercury Marine has made a fortune with dew to the good service. Mercruy has not even stepped up to the newer motor because of its rating.
Had a chance to drive a tractor trailer car hauling rig for about 4 months with a allison transmission in it.. Loved it. Little slow on the shifting from forward to Rev but other than that, it was love at first shift.
Those two names, cummins and Allison are tired and true in the trucking industry and I tag alone in there somewhere learing a tad here and there when I can...
I bought my 2000 in 03. Have yet to go in the motor. Lost a clutch, went back with duel disk dew to the poulling I do, master cylinder, and one AC compresser one set of brakes. Tickled to death with the dodge.

I do not disagree with your comments. However, if you refer back to the OPs original post. He had a wrangler and is looking at a powerwagon, so it appears he is more interested in offroading that towing. I never meant to imply the Raptor is a great tow truck...its not. But its amazing at what it does offroad and I have never driven a pick-up that was more fun.

It appears my info on diesels and the cold are outdated.

Okay, other than the fact that Raptors are actually horrible offroad (unless you like bent frames).

No, actually it can't. But Chevy also doesn't run ads that imply it can, and every owner of a Silverado doesn't suddenly think he's Ivan Iron Man Stewart (or more accurately Brian Deegan).

If you don't think Raptors bend frames when you drive them like Ford advertises: http://bit.ly/Tqzk5w
