2013 Ford Shelby GT
I have to admit, the new Shelby GT is a pretty damn good car for under $60k. Over 600hp and 200+ miles per hour (though I'd never go that fast). I think some of the Shelby and Rousch Mustangs could take a Vette on the strip...but would never stand a chance on the track.
Either way, great cars representing American horsepower

I have zero issues with the Mustang, in fact I sold my supercharged Saleen because I decided to check out the Vette.
But, this has really been overdone and beat to death.
I do know for fact there is no way a new Shelby can hang with an 08' coupe on twisty mtn roads - not even close.

I'll always take my Vette no matter how much HP another car is rated at. I'm sure they are bashing the ZR1 on the Mustang forums
I agree on the twisty, and sorry for beating on a dead horse. All these Charger, Challenger, Mustang types are built for a straight road. It makes me nuts when people get those cars and put ghetto rims on them.

The Camaro ZL1 is the exception, even with 80 less HP it's faster on the track. Suspension and brakes on the ZL1 are light years ahead of the raw HP Ford is pushing.
We had a saying in the USAF, with enough thrust you can make a pig fly". Seems that's Ford's MO these days.

Not sure why people want to compare the Mustang to the Corvette. Two different cars completely. The Mustang is in the Camaro and Challenger class. The Corvette is a true sports car, not a muscle car. Lets face it those three cars are designed to go fast in a straight line.

Just wait fellow Corvette fans, I'm sure after a few years have gone by and Ford realizes the mustang is still not able to compete with the vette, they will introduce the SVT Jack Roush Shelby GT900 Super Snake Mustang Windsor Edition that will boast 900 HP. They will be able to fit that huge name on one single badge that will be sported right on the fender. It's likely it will be on an issue of Road & Track right next to the 1200HP Viper. We might see a glimps of the corvette nose in the very back of the pack....

Thats why they make DIFFERENT kinds of cars. You can buy whatever you want in todays marketplace. The Mustang, Challenger and Camaro are all nice cars. My choice was a CORVETTE. BTW, the Vette is pretty good in a straight line tooooooo.

i just sold my 03 cobra with 681hp / 702 torque for my c6 vette. I love both cars. As long as were beating the ricers on the strip and on the highway it's all good. But i have to admit the stares and people admiring my vette is awesome. It's in a different class.. But i'll consider buying a shelby gt500 two years from now and making it a stable mate to the vette. Best of both worlds!!!

I think the comparisons are simply high horsepower engines regardless of what the engines are in. I also had a shelby gt500, a saleen parnelli jones 302 and a supercharged saleen. they were all fun cars to drive and that pj 302 was just a screamer!
But guess what, I sold all 3 shelby/saleens and bought 3 corvettes. the mustangs are fun to drive but they do not match a vette. the new shelby is good looking and full of power. put fords best mustang (the shelby) up against corvettes best (the ZR1) and its still no comparison, the vette wins. so like someone else said, why compare these two when they are not in the same category? Because it creates attention, controversy and interest in the cars. We all win

Love Mustangs (Owned 5 so far) & will own more, but not ever paying $60k for one that is not a classic built to hell. For $60k, I'll take a used Z06 & pocket the rest or spend $15k more on a used ZR1.
