Yep, considered that one. From reading up on it, sounds like there's some material turbo lag and it's on the heavier side. Sounds like they're going for more of a GT experience. However, depending on how the FRS test drive goes, I may have to give this one a second look.

Just putting stickier rubber does a lot.

It looks like the Mazdaspeed 3 is just about even (track time) with the FR-S with sticky rubber. The speed 3 is also better in the snow, being FWD.
Still, the FR-S, being rear wheel drive, doesn't have the torquesteer that the speed 3 has and that can be only a good thing.

Now you got me thinking. I wonder how MS3 is on the fun factor. Might need to do some research.

Drive each one, back-to-back. That's what makes car-comparisons fun.

I am anxiously awaiting the 2200 lb MX5 that is due out within the next couple of years. If it has even 170 HP, it'll be a blast to drive.

I would also be driving it through the winter, so hopefully some winter tires and sand bags in the trunk will do the trick.

Why not an AWD WRX?

I'm not crazy about AWD. Our winters here are pretty short, so I'd rather sacrifice couple of months of spirited driving with the winter tires to enjoy the great balance and the lively handling of the RWD setup during the rest of the year.
