I have a 2009 f350 with the 6.4 in it. Owned it since new and it has 81k miles on it so far and not 1 issue. I've heard mixed reviews on them as well but my experience has been a good one thus far. Overall a great truck.

I am biased .. yes I am a manager for a Ford Dealer ... the diesels are pretty hard to beat ... the technology in these trucks is amazing and they are getting pretty close to 20 mpg or better when not towing ... that is better than my 12 f150 ecoboost!
I have had the 6.0 (mine was trouble free) but it does not come close to the new engine ... my only reservation is having to have DEF fluid in these new engines ..
If you do your research they are all pretty good right now .. I prefer the Ford since I have the opportunity to drive them daily and I am impressed with the new engine.
Good luck with your hunt!

I'm gonna chime in I guess lol. I have a 2011 F350 diesel and its an amazing truck.
I bought it brand new from the dealer and the only problems I've had was to take it back to the dealer for a recall and they reflashed the PCM. The stock shocks were complete garbage btw and I had to replace them with bilstein shocks. I drove both the gasser and the diesel and chose the diesel hands down. Once you drive the trucks you'll understand.
I get roughly 12mpg driving only in the city with 35s on it. If I drove on the highway I would get much better mileage. Definitely buy the newest model year you can afford, the early trucks have had a lot of HPFP failures, but you should be good to go with the new models because bosch redesigned the pump. My truck has been fine however and I have about 21k mi on the clock. I did tow for a bit, but I dont tow much, dont really care.

I must say though that the new 6.7 has been pretty impressive .. the rep that came to our store had a Lariat 4x4 that read 21+ mpg on the center info gauge.
sorry for the confusion

LMM Duramax. Just turned 113K miles with 7K gallons use. I get 14.7 MPG pulling open car hauler @70mph. I get 17+ without trailer, a little less @80mph or so. Compared to my friends that pull with gasoline, the diesel has just about returned the initial extra cost vs. gas engine considering I get 50% better mileage towing. I have really enjoyed the easy towing/handling and ample power, too.

I buy a bunch of trucks for my construction company. For 2500/3500, the new Duramax/Allison combo and chassis improvements of the new Silverado/Sierra are unbeatable in my research. We have several and they are work horses. For our 4500 mechanic trucks we have the new Dodge Cummins/aisin auto and they are stout too.
I also buy 3/4 ton Fords, but after being burned big time on many of their 6.0 diesels and a few 6.4 diesels, I will only buy the 6.2 Ford gas F250 for our guys who don't tow frequently. I also have bought 3 ecoboost f150, one of which has 150k miles already. Injectors went and cats too. Not overly impressed with mileage either. So, I then went to the 5.0l gas for our light duty f150 trucks.
I've heard good things about the new Ford 6.7 diesel, but I am not compelled to try it when the new GM diesel trucks are so capable. They may not be as pretty, but they work and work hard.

I had a 02 GMC 2500 HD gas 8.1 crew cab short bed got 8-10 mpg just stored it after 309k miles .. only problem i had were changed spark plugs one an fuel pumps 4 times an picked up a 05 2500 chevy crew cab sb with 141k miles . it gets 20 mpg average 18 hauling my featherlight open car trailer with 3,770lb car and a 500lb tommy gate lift rated at 3,500lb. MY DAD has same style 05 with 250k miles chaange water pump twice. My brother has same truck but GMC bought new with almost 250k miles changed water pump once . Inj harness and put an engine gound n it and went with a catapillar fuel filter set up. I know someone who bought a new 11 ford 2500 had to take it to the dealer twice less than 10k miles. So they gave him a new truck an hasnt had any more problems. I just hate to know id have to add that stuff in the tank every 5k miles plus cost of oil change.
as u can see I took care of the 02
the 05 is the green truck beside my o2
