Hey guys,

I've been planning to get the C7 for quite some time now but recently after seeing the new 981 Boxster I'm confused again. After thinking about it for a long time, I've made up my mind - I want both.

What I'm still confused about though is the transmission choices. I've owned 3 cars since the age of 18 (I'm 20 now) and none of them have had a manual transmission. First I thought I'd get the 'vette with a stick and the Porsche with PDK but people have advised me to get the less powerful car with a manual transmission because it would be the first manual car that I'd own.

So basically, should I get
a) a Boxster w/ PDK and a manual C7, or
b) a manual Boxster and an automatic C7?

Both cannot be manual unfortunately because manuals depreciate a LOT here in Dubai and I simply cannot take that kind of a hit from both cars. Please help! I cannot make up my mind

I'm sure you'll get the most unbiased opinion here, personally I've never liked the P-cars, my bias opinion would say get the vette

I am completely unbiased. I do not favor one vehicle over the other, and there is no ulterior motive in my advice.

Get the 'vette. If you can afford it, get two C7s, one stick, and one automatic.

Manual C7 and PDK Porsche. Auto in the C7 is a little behind the times.

try to squeeze into a boxster...check the 0-60 1/4 mile....
Priice wise the base boxster with a few options will esculate the cost way beyond reason

I was shocked when I saw the new boxster at a car show- the folks who do the commercial pics are to be congratulated for miaking it look better than it really is. IMO


911 vs corvette worthy to discuss....

The 911 is essentially, over $100,000, whereas the Boxster is in the same ballpark as the C7.....that is, until you check off a few options on the Boxster list, which can send its bottom line price to $90,000.

I bought my wife a 981 S. great little car. Not on par with corvette performance, but nice to drive. If you can afford a corvette and a boxster. Get a 991 S. The 911 is much nicer to drive IMHO than a corvette or a boxster.

Again, we all have different opinions on what we want from a car. Also, as you asked. On the Porsche... Get PDK , it's amazing.

I didn't get a 911 and in fact chose the 6-series over it in November because I needed a luxurious daily driver and I found the 911 a bit too small. Now that I've got my daily driver I can afford to get a fun car. I wouldn't mind getting a 911 but I reall wanted to get the C7 'vette since the Jalopnik renderings first came out. Also, many people have stated that the Boxster actually handles better than a 911 due to its mid-engined layout. The 981 S is as fast as a base 911 and even looks better so what's not to like. I also like some variety in the garage and I feel like a vette and boxster would fit really well with the 6er and make the garage more diverse than a 911 would.

I would get the Boxter S with the PDK & the C7 with the 7 spd manual. The PDK is a dual clutch & the C7 auto, although much improved since it's introduction in 2006, is old school & likely will be replaced next year with the 8 speed auto GM has under development.

If depreciation loss is a concern why are you buying two two seat sportscars...?

Not recommended to by both at the same time. ...why not buy one at a time?

I won't be buying the two cars at the same time. I'll be getting one of them by the end of the year (depending on the availability and pricing of the initial C7 stock) and the other car the following year. It takes 4 months to get a Porsche after ordering, and the C7 is scheduled to be available here in October or November, so all those factors are going to influence my decision.

From the majority of replies I can gather that the Boxster is better with PDK and the C7 with a manual. I suppose that must be the best combination to go with. As for buying 2 sports cars, they're (upgraded) replacements for my last cars. The 'vette will replace the Mustang GT and the Boxster will replace the Z4. I know the resale value on 2-seat sports cars won't be great but that isn't the problem. People here are generally reluctant to buy manual cars because of the insane amount of traffic so they are a tough sell.

I really am looking forward to driving the C7, and I sure hope it has more grip than the 'Stang. I got into a bad accident in the Mustang 2 years back because I cornered like I would in a BMW and it didn't end so well.

I think it's VERY safe to say that the C7 will FAR outhandle ANY mustang.

There are many reasons why I don't want a Porsche 911 turbo.

1. It looks like a sleeker VW Beetle. I HATE the looks of that car. Again, I chose the 6-series coupe over the 911 coupe as my DD ONLY because I couldn't get past the 911's looks. (No offence to any 911 owners)

2. The C7 is fast. Probably too fast for the radar infested roads here. It's got all the power I need and looks better than a 911 too. Most people wouldn't even notice a 911 when parked next to a 'Vette here.

3. I've always wanted a mid engined car. The 911 may be a lot of things but it's not a mid-engined car. I feel like the Boxster also looks better than the new 911 cabriolet (and I've seen them right next to each other).

4. Last but not least. The (fixed) price of a C7 here is $73k and a decently optioned Boxster S is around $70k. I'd be getting one this year and the other the next year so I won't be spending all of it together. Having said that, I wouldn't spend $140k on a car that looks like a 911.

I for one will not question why you are doing this as more just to add my opinion in this matter.

I own a 986 and C6Z06, both are great cars and it is pretty much unanimous with getting PDK with P-car and manual with C7.

I also have 2 Masers (Coupe and QP), a truck, a Clubman and a recent addition, Saleen 281SC. Many people ask me why I don't just get a 911 Turbo, or Ferrari F430---> The answer is because I don't want one. It is often assumed that just because someone owns a base car or model that is lower on the totem poll that they cannot afford the more expensive brethren.

I hear that the Porsche's PDK is one of the best dual clutches out there, and I'd honestly get the PDK Boxster S and a 7-speed C7. I'm a manual enthusiast so I personally would buy a manual Boxster S and a manual C7, but it's your money and what you want in the end. Hope our advice helps you out! 1/4 mile, sure. Squeeze? Not so much. My C6Z is nowhere near as comfortable in head/leg/shoulder room as my Boxster was.

Big power beat out comfort and backroad fun though.
