Default GM's 5.3 EcoTec3 Truck Engine Power Ratings Up 40hp and 48tq

Finally some "relevant" numbers to support expectations of LT1 design. Article says 6.2 numbers still to come.

2013 5.3L 315hp 335tq - 15mpg city/22mpg hwy
2014 5.3L 355hp 383tq - 16mpg city/23mpg hwy

A few of us went over this a few weeks ago and people just dismissed it as they will here in a few hours or so.

Like it was unbelievable that the LT1 could put out 470-490hp as I estimated.

Doesn't really prove a thing. You can play around with numbers all you want.

You can take that 355 horses divided by 5.3L and you get 67 HP/L. 67 HP/L times 6.2 Liters(LT1) and you get 415 horsepower. Is that what you want in your C7?

Different engines, even though both are GenV, designed for different applications.

And that particular engine has 11:1 CR so it can run on 87. LT1 has 11.5:1 CR so it requires 91/92/93 octane.

The truck motors have a more restrictive exhaust manifold and exhaust system so the gains could have been slightly higher if they had been fitted with Corvette manifolds and dual exhaust / NPP.

I expect a similar bump in hp for the LT1 over the LS3. The torque at peak might not as large a jump but we at least know that there's about 50lbft improvement over the LS3 around 2000rpm.

GM isn't playing this go around. The Gen IV engines were impressive but I think the Gen V engines will be even more so.

I'm guessing somewhere between 400-600hp for the LT1. You heard it here first.

Peak horsepower of the LT1 isn't made at 2,000 RPM. It's at approximately 6,000 RPM and at that RPM the LT1 has ~ 20 lbs-ft more torque than the LS3, not 50.

20 lb-ft times 6,000 RPM divided by 5252 = 23 additional horsepower over the 430 HP of the LS3 which would be 453 HP for the LT1.

Didn't say it was. Please reread my sentence.

I say there probably wouldn't be a jump in a peak torque like we see with the truck motors for the LT1 vs LS3.

You did say "I expect a similar bump in hp for the LT1 over the LS3". I read that to mean that you are saying that the 40 HP jump in the truck engine would also be a 40 HP jump in the LT1 over the LS3.

20 lb-ft times 6,000 RPM divided by 5252 = 23 additional horsepower over the 430 HP of the LS3 which would be 453 HP for the LT1.

No.

I mean that I expect a 40hp jump in peak hp from the LS3 to LT1 ie "similar bump".

To recap my post, I expect the LT1 to post similar gains in peak hp (40) over the LS3 but not the 48lbft in peak torque.
