Default I drove a "P" car yesterday.

I have a 2011 C-6 Convertible. Yesterday I had some time to kill while waiting on a friend to arrive at the airport. I stopped by the Porsche dealership in Virginia Beach and drove a 2014 Porsche Cayman. The car had a MSRP of $62,000 and was the base engine with a 6 speed manual transmission but did not have powered seats, heated seats or SAT radio. The seats were very suportive and comfortable. The steerting feel was remarkable and the car handled like a dream. Being the base engine, the car had very little low end torque. I had to keep the RPM up or the car had very little acceleration. The part that surprised me was how choppy and poorly the car rode. It seemed to bounce from the front to the rear on rough roads. I did not care for the ride quality at all.
Overall the car had a high quality but the base engine would not do. Going to the "S" modle would add $10,000 to the MSRP. Overall I felt I would have to spend at least $70,000 to get the options I feel are necessary. The dealer wanted MSRP + a $700 documentation fee.
Nice car but at a high cost. I will keep my C-6.

I got a ride in this GT3, long story short my buddy paid over 80k for it used and it didn't match my vette's torque however it will smoke my vette in the corners unless I upgrade the suspension...not worth the money in my opinion and I LOVE PORSCHES...

you have to remember that cayman is among the cheapest mid-engined cars out there. The base car only has a 2.7l engine but supposed to manage 0-60 in just 5.1 sec. My mazda 5 has a 2.5l engine and gets from 0-60 in 10 sec.

I drove a Cayman S a few yrs back. I was very pleased with the handling on the back road twisties. But 295 HP lacked greatly in the straight stretches. At this point the S may be running 320HO. Still not enough

The Mitsubishi Lancer Raliart has a 2.4 liter engine and does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. It costs about $27,000.

My only real hangup with Porsche is how they look SO friggin similar from the ones that came out 30 years ago. The general shape has just changed so little...especially up until the late 90s.

Well, that and the lack of low down grunt. I hate having to wind a car up to the top 70+% of the power band to have any real punch. Had an RX-8 previously, and wow...NOTHING before about 5-6k.

LR has a turbo engine and a giant turbo lag. Cayman has a N/A engine.

I love my little 30 year old VW/P-car.

It's a head turner. But, I still get people in their fast cars looking to pick on it, thinking it's an easy mark. I especially love it when their P-car cousins, with their uppity drivers and trophy wives/gf, smirk then try to embarrass me.

Big mistake !

Did you ever dyno that 944? Look like Speedlines? The best looking rim for that car, bar none.

Yes, It makes 401 rwhp. It will run heads up against a stock C6 Z06.

I love to pick on the back-motored p-car guys. They don't like me at all, for more than one reason. I can out run most, up to 170, then I run out of gearing. Really need to swap the 5-speed turbo tranny for a 6-speed.

And, they all think I bastardized the car.

Hey, don't pick on the Lancer; its big brother, the EVO will embarrass many a 2-seater sports car. In fact, it was awarded the "Best handling car" a few years back. Sadly, Mitsubishi doesn't seem to be doing well.

love those 944's!,..we are members of our local "p" club,..and I never hear people disparage the 944. In fact,.the general consensus is,..that car saved Porsche's bacon in the 80's,..just as the boxster did in the 90's,..and the cayenne did in the 2000's,..and now, the panamera seems to be adding to porsches bottom line quite nicely too,..in these 2010's?....In every decade,..Porsche has a car that was their salvation during tuff times. And you my friend,..have the "it" car for Porsche in the 80's!. I've never heard my Porsche brethren put down the 944,...actually,..we don't see 'em very often,..and at our "meets",...folks always gather 'round 'em to admire them,..so?,...maybe a "tuffer" Porsche crowd where you live?,..but here in our area,..we all tend ta love on 'em!. Your's is a real BEAUT!,..and how anyone could make fun of it?,..oh well!,..people are strange I guess?,..so,..no accounting for taste?. I love yours,..and all 944's...

I agree, I don't know who would make fun of that 944. Maybe someone that knows it would quickly "make fun" of them..!

My Gf drives a 2012 HYUNDAI Sonata Limited Turbo. 2.0L Turbo. 5.8 seconds 0-60 ...and that thing is a full-sized 4 door sedan. heh

Crap on a Porsche for that much loot with that kind of performance. Just sayin...
