Default not a vette, but a 64' impala 327 question

My friend has a 64 Impala SS 327 convertible, all original. We went for a little cruise yesterday and I noticed he had some oil pooling up on his (very clean) intake manifold. After inspecting the motor, it appears to be coming from the passenger side bolts that are holding the carb mounting plate to the manifold.

Anyone know why this is happening and how we can fix it?

There is no oil passage under the carb. It might be leaking gas from there, but that would be a darker liquid that evaporates leaving a nasty stain. Oil could easily seep from the intake manifold to head bolts if no sealer was used on the bolt threads or even it they are a little loose. I would try two things. First, check to see if the bolt where the oil is pooling might be loose. If so, remove it and put a little sealer on the threads and replace it. If you are actually getting oil from under the carb then there are bigger problems to deal with.

It looked like oil to me, but I could be wrong. It looked like fresh oil (color), at the bolts (to the carb), but when it was pooled up on the manifold it was dark, like oil that should have been changed a year ago. I wish I would have had my phone on me to take a pic.

Not sure about how a '64 is set up, but if there is a tube of some kind from the manifold up to the carb at the choke thermostat pull it loose and see if it is full of oil. That would indicate a manifold gasket leak sucking oil from the engine into the heat crossover passage and from there up to the choke when it could leak out at the carb. That is a long shot but a reasonable guess and worth checking.

He should just sell the car to me and get rid of the headaches associated with these cars.

pics at www.kcbluesgarage.com (none of the engine on here, but I can get some)!

He has some pretty sweet rides - they aren't all on here.
