New Competition? The $84,600 Porsche Cayman GT4
2016 Cayman GT4 - $84,600+dest
Revealed today, ready to order for spring delivery.
Standard with "at least 385HP" NA power, Manual Transmission, 911 GT3 steering and front suspension, 30mm lowered, LSD/PTV, PASM, sports exhaust, 380mm (15") 2-piece rotors and 6/4-piston mono block calipers from the GT3, GT3 PASM dampers, 220lbs downforce at top speed, sports Chrono, 20" wheels with Cup 2 tires, HD radio, all standard, for only about $10K more than the Cayman GTS. But when yon consider the extra equipment it is the Porsche bargain of the century.
Oh, and it is 500 lbs lighter than a Z06.
Oh, and it laps the N'ring in a projected 7:40, which ties the 997 GT3.
And the chief engineer does not give equivocating answers. He simply answers it straight and proudly in a 20 min interview.

I'd be interested in it (at that price) if it had more power and DCT. Is it at least AWD? I do like the way it looks.

Top contenders are:
C7 Z51 - would buy it for sure if it had at least the Z06 iron brakes
C7 Z06 stage 1 - just for the brakes and better tires
GT350
And now this Cayman, which I thought was going to come only next year, but was an early surprise.
Since 2 of the cars I am considering are Corvettes, is it that wrong to post it here and "ask"
Particularly when there are several threads by many long time posters here with subjects like "Why would anyone buy a Porsche" on the Forum.

From Road & Track: http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...t4-first-look/
The mid-engined meanie will debut a month from now at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show, and it's already a monster. Its 7:40 lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife is equal to the time posted by the 2011 Porsche 911 GT3.
Power comes from a 3.8L flat six derived from the 911 Carrera S. It makes 385 hp, and that power is transmitted to the rear wheels exclusively via a six-speed stick. No PDK here, folks. The lesson of the 911 GT3 has been learned.
And yes, duh, it's stupid fast. 0–60 takes 4.2 seconds and the car will run all the way up to 183 mph. Visually, its wicked new aero package alerts the world that this is no garden-variety little croc. And under the skin, Porsche says that most of the chassis components are stolen directly from the spectacular 911 GT3—R&T's 2015 Performance Car of the Year.
Inside, it's just as you'd expect—driver-focused and purposeful. Naturally, myriad upgrades like the PCCB carbon-ceramic brakes will be available to those who want them.
Want one? It goes on sale this July for $84,600, plus a $995 destination charge. We'll see it in person a month from now, so stay tuned for those firsthand impressions.

i dont understand this kind of attitude. It is around the same price point.. i think people who consider the z06 would want to know about this car. The question is how many.. i am guessing a lot, but i admit i could be wrong. In any case, being rude, close minded and unfriendly to someone who was trying to post useful information leaves a bad taste.

So many clueless Porsche hater's here. They don't understand the quality puts the Vette to shame. No mismatched body panels, no rampant orange peel, no three colored roofs, I could go on and on.

I agree. And for once they included *everything* performance relevant *standard*.
15"(380mm) 2-piece rotors front and back, with 6/4 piston mono block calipers - standard (and significantly larger than non-Z07 Z06 brakes)
30mm lowered suspension - check
Additional center radiator cooling - check
Front splitter/rear wing - 220lbs downforce on both axles - check
GT3 steering, GT3 front suspension, GT3 PASM - check
Sports exhaust, already blacked out - check
20"Wheels, Cup 2 tires, brake dust colored wheels - check
LSD and torque vectoring - check
GT3 dampers, adjustable towers, ball bearing suspension knuckles - check
6 speed manual with dual mass (but light) flywheel, with auto bleeping and torque limiter - check
Extra welds on the body in white for stiffness and for mounting of rear roll cage (which is expandable to full cage) and 6-point harnesses (all available from Porsche Motorsports) - check
I mean, there is nothing in the Porsche option list that you could add that would improve performance (except maybe ceramic brakes which is an option but controversial for track duty).
I feel that this is the first time Porsche has put out a product that does not try to nickel and dime you for every little performance option. It is all there - standard. For the price of a Z06.

Yes.... a 1LZ 7-speed manual with Z07 pkg and CFZ option (Stage 3 aero in painted carbon flash metallic). MSRP is approx 90K for this build.
