Default Audi S4 B8.5 as a daily ?

So I have a 14' stingray which I haven't driven all winter... was gonna get a a m5/6 this fall as another toy but this winter was so brutal that I decided I am going to get something fun, stick, AWD.

Ended up looking at the audi S4. here are my problems... they are stopping orders on the 15' end of this month, they are unsure (dealers) what will happen with the 16' because the b9 body style is coming out for a4 , but there will be no b9 s4 until 17'. therefore there may be a carry over year where the 16' s4 is a b8.5 body style.

I am hoping this is the case so that I can order it in the late summer for fall delivery. if that doesnt happen then I need to hope I find one on a lot with the options/ colors /specs and biggest thing MT that I want.

If not then I am left with considering the Bmw 335 xi or 435xi in stick and awd. But I have had a few BMWs (325ci coupe, 330ci convt, 750Li, m3) and was hoping to try something different.

any of you guys owned an audi? experiences ? love /hate?
thanks-

I had a '12 B8 S4, 6 speed as a daily driver for a couple years. Worst decision I made was trading it on a '14 CLA45 AMG. The Audi was just about as quick but was a better overall car than the Merc. The instant throttle response of the S4 in sport mode was addicting on back mountain roads while the turbo lag of the Merc got annoying within the first week of owning the car. Gas mileage of my s4 was right around 21 mpg. With snow tires, it handled any snow we had here in PA.

I personally think the S4/S5 is one of, if no the best daily driver you can buy. I'm waiting on the looks of the '16/'17 model to make a decision about buying another one.

I've got a 2013 S4 for one of my daily drivers.... It's a S-Tronic/dual clutch transmission (my wife drives occasionally and Chicago area traffic can really suck). I absolutely love the car, it's basically everything I wanted in a sedan in this segment. Zero regrets on my purchase. I bought it new nearly 2 years ago and it's been a trouble free ride. I bought mine with the 19" wheels/summer tires and run a set of extra 18" wheels wrapped with Blizzaks for the winter months.... Frigging monster in the snow!!!! You won't regret your purchase..... I looked at/drove the BMW and the Lexus. The Audi was the best choice hands down!!!

thats good to hear thanks for the input. The only problem I have is the potential of there being no 16' b8.5 s4 and not being able to find a leftover 15 the way I want it...or a CPO that fits my choices

Not sure exactly what your option list is but I would suggest the following at a minimum.
*Sports differential (this is a must!!)
*Bang &Olufsen audio upgrade (for an additional $800 and change it's well worth it)
*19" wheels (cars with stock 18" wheels come with all season tires so the car has a lower electronically limited speed of 135mph)
*MMI/Navigation (more voice command/streaming audio options. Better for future resale)

funny lol the exact options i picked out haha. but like I said I may end up missing out on this as the last order is end of month for the 15' and unsure if there will be a 16' S4 .

Those tend to be pretty popular options so you should be able to find a car on a lot (may have to do a dealer trade or travel a bit). I pretty much was in the same boat when I purchased my car. There was an incentive I wanted to take advantage of and I was able to have my dealer locate a car at a nearby dealer to trade. If I would have ordered I would have had to wait about 3 months to get the car. I'd start looking now as there should be a pretty good supply of 2015 (and maybe even some left over 2014) inventory.

I would like to get it from my boys dealer so hoping they can do a dealer swap possibly.

I am really praying that they make a 16' s4 and its a carry over b8.5

I don't need the car before fall-winter so I don't want to take on the payments now to just have the car sit when I could be saving the extra funds for now

For your plan it would be great to see a "carryover" B8.5 for the 2016 MY so you can order one exactly the way you want it.

On a side note....... I'm simply shocked that Dave68 has not come into this thread spouting off about how bad German cars suck and that you should only be looking at purchasing a Lexus or a Mazda

Find a way to buy one!
Most pleasurable daily driver I've owned, on all fronts - attractive; fantastic build quality (the quality detail is evident at a glance and up close; almost all build seams are hidden; nary a sharp edge to touch), quick; quiet; refined/luxurious; great handling (little extra fun with the optional rear differential), good utility (folding rear seats; pass through rear armrest), reasonable fuel economy (does require premium); good resale value.

Great sound system with the optional B&O.

Owned my 2010 6 speed manual S4 since new.
Not a single issue/concern; all pleasure!

Wish I had the same seats in my '13 ZR1.

It's the first all wheel drive car I've owned. Wow, what traction...but remember you've got to stop using similar capacities as all your 2 wheel drive neighbours.

Was thinking about an upgrade, maybe a S6/RS7, but neither have a manual transmission. Probably a good thing - saves me a lot of money.

Love my car!

There isn't an Infiniti or Mazda that could wear an S4's jockstrap, let alone compete with one. The S4 feels and performs closer to 400 horspower. Matter of fact, I think I read a usual AWD dyno is in the 330 awhp range. That's C5 Z06 numbers.

If you factory order from Germany now, your car will probably arrive in June, a couple months prior to your end of summer target...the upside is you'll have ordered the car exactly the way you want and it won't have sat on a dealer lot.

If you don't need four doors, how about the S5?

Hope it turns out well for you.

I owned a 2010 loaded Prestige with the S-Tronic gearbox. Just a fantastic car and with winter tyres on it, it was damn near unstoppable in the winter. Enjoyed the hell out of it and drove it pretty much everyday. Highly recommended.

I was under the impression that the S5 will stop production with the S4 if there is no 16'

if they happen to make the s5 and not the s4 then I would consider the S5

So were you able to order a "carryover model" 2016 or did you end up going with a 2015?

Just said F it and ordered a 15'. Got a sick deal , ordered what I wanted , figure takes 2-4 months to get the car anyway and then my CU a does 90 days no payments on their new car loans so I have another 5-7 months to pocket some extra cash for my savings before money is due
