Default Today's picture of the car that ran the world's first four second quarter mile

27 years ago today. 4.990 elapsed time at 288.55 mph on 4/9/88, the date that seemed to demand it.

And I was the first one to see it.

Thanks for looking.

It is difficult to recall that was 27 years ago!
I remember that car well. You and your team
where a class act.

I hear that, 27 years ago does not seem possible- kinda hard to wrap my mind around that much time since then.

Thanks for the compliment, the fans were always very kind to us, and we genuinely appreciate all of them, and probably what we miss the most.

I remember it, too, just like it was yesterday- a major happy memory for us!

The Ariel Atoms are becoming better known and what few changes are being made to them are increasing the fun quotient. As enthusiasts with the mega-dollar supercars find out how much fun the Atoms are on road race tracks, and that they operate for a fraction of the cost of some of the exotics, the sales of the track-only SRA (SpecRaceAtom)cars are increasing.

Good, I read on another forum that TX was going to ban them as road car.

There is documentation that there was a state in the northwest that tried that, and the offending state was forced to reinstate the Atom owners driving privileges AND reimburse the Atom owner for his lawyer fees and expenses.

The liability insurance might be a bit on the pricey side-

That's an incredible accomplishment! I can't begin to imagine what it feels like to accelerate from 0 to 288 mph in under 5 seconds. Awesome!

Thank you Crushinator. And that is true- you really can't imagine what the ride is like.

Eleven years later, in 1999, we had improved about a half second on the elapsed time, and picked up about 35 mph in the 1/4 mile.

We showed 5 1/4 Gee early in the run, but incredibly still over 1 Gee at over 300 mph!

And check out that Zero to 272.45 MPH in 3.056 seconds in the 1/8 mile!

Man, how time flies. You won't remember but I do. I met you at Dave Uyehara's chassis shop way back when. He built the top fuel chassis that I crewed on around the same time he built yours. I gave Dave the VHS tape that I recorded of your run.
