If the CTS-V were AWD, would you care?

Default If the CTS-V were AWD, would you care?

I'm in a rainy area that gets some snow, so my "daily" car is generally AWD. I drive a Range Rover and my wife an S8. But with the CTS-V having the LT4, I think she might need one.

Only problem is it's still rear wheel drive. That's not uncommon (except Audi) for the top performance models, but it's unfortunate.

I'm curious how many people would consider driving the Cadillac sedan but for the availability of AWD. Does it matter to most?

I would prefer AWD honestly.

While I love RWD cars, I think the CTS-V will eventually have to become AWD. I would 100% consider the new CTS-V if it were AWD.

I think one issue with AWD is the system handling the HP.

I ordered another one since my first was/is a great car to drive long distances, compared to my other cars including Z 06. Best

There are a lot more powerful cars out there with AWD with zero issues.

I have a 2011 CTS-V coupe and if the new model came in AWD, it wouldn't entice me just for that reason. Just put good snow tires on it, and unless you live where snow is an everyday event, you'll be more than fine. And completely agree with RBK -- a phenomenal long distance car.

AWD would certainly help make it more versatile and, despite the weight, faster. But, in the end, I'd pick the Germans - for a 4 door fast daily - because the Caddy just isn't up to par on the interior, the design, and the materials.

I sure hope GM makes more changes, soon.

I feel ya! I love the new CTS Vs, but with their delayed production, I put mine off till spring since it would sit in the garage all winter anyway. The Range Sport handles the snow duty.

I believe I recall reading a few months ago that Cadillac was working on a hybrid type drivetrain in which two wheels would be battery powered and it was to go into the CTS V's in a few years. You never know with all of the speculation, but that is one way you would not have to rely on a trans axle.

With my ATS V being a Twin Turbo V6, I really wish it were AWD!

After having AWD in my current S4 ( I run a separate set of winter wheels with Blizzaks) I just cannot go to a RWD car, love the CTS-V but I will be moving to a S6 next

There is a reason that the new Mercedes E63 has done 0-60 in 3.2 seconds...AWD. I would love the CTS-V Wagon in AWD. That would be a great family hauler.

You are so right -- the perfect family hauler.

I have a 2nd Gen CTS-V. The new one is off the charts and sure it would launch faster with AWD. The car is an animal with RWD. Although I don't use mine in winter I know if slap a set of Blizzaks on it the car will go thru anything.

There is not a lot of other cars with 640 lb/ft torque running through an AWD system in a sub $100k car that weighs 4100lbs. I'm struggling to think of any besides a Veyron.

The Audi S8 is 605hp, does just fine. Audi seems to be the only one. And come to think of it, it might even share some AWD parts with Veyron, being the same company (Volkswagen).

Looks like 553ft/lb torque for the Plus variant which is 90 less than the CTS-V puts out. It's also starts at $114k. Not saying that it can't be done, but there really isn't anyone else doing it for $85k.

Part of the lavish praise heaped on the CTSv's handling and steering is due to RWD instead of AWD.

AWD helps traction, but it weighs more, costs more, more stuff to break, and it hurts MPG.

Get a nice set of snow tires on a 2nd set of wheels and you'll be fine

AWD CTS-V Wagon, that'd rock. I'm using a GMC crew with the 6.2 8 spd just for the available seating, it's quick enough around town, and has 4WD when I want and 2WD most of the time.
