Porsche 718 or Corvette

The new 718 will be a 2.0L Turbo charged engine.
And don't knock the 2.0L Turbo. GM is putting the 2.0L Turbo in the Cadillac brand. Many auto manufacturers are using a 2.0L Turbo.

By the way i was having this exact conversation with my cousin who is an engineer for GM. Cadillac comes out with there so cold "flagship" CT6 and puts the 2.0T in it.....NOT a smart move. You don't see S Class, 7 Series or A8 with a 2.0T. Not that i'm personally comparing the CT6 to those cause its no where near good enough to compete with the above mentioned. Oh and by the way the 3.0 TT in there top trim CT6 starts at around 84k i believe......they did the same things with the new CTS a couple years ago and they wonder why its not selling well.

718 is a beautiful car. While I would love to have a Porsche 911, Cayman or Boxster; I bought a C7 Z51 coupe. Why?
1. Value - a comparably equipped/performing 911 costs twice as much as a C7. Build both online & see. Cayman/Boxster probably a bit better value than 911 but still not close to a C7. Porsche maintenance/service costs are much higher than C7.
2. All things being relatively equal, rather my money stay in the the USA rather than ship off to Germany.
3. Sound of a naturally aspirated, burly V8 vs a whiny 4-banger.

However, as much as turbos may be the way of the future (they certainly are great for fuel economy and for more power), I don't think they have the right sound or power for a fun sports car. Like I said before, between the 4S and Turbo S, I would hands down have a 4S over the Turbo S despite it being slower - merely because of the way the throaty 6 cylinder of the 4S put somewhat more of a smile on my face. I drive a 4 cylinder turbo every day (2013 328i) and they serve no place... even with much less lag... on a sports car.
If I wanted a turbocharged sports car (given how ubiquitous Boxsters are in my area), I would have just gone ahead and gotten an M3/M4. At least that way I would have gotten a back seat and usable luggage space.
For me the sound is a part of the emotional connection to a sports car. An example below, the white Merc is the older 6.2L NA V8 while the black car is the current gen C63 with a twin turbo 4.0L V8.

The day I have a 4 cylinder in my sports car is the day the government makes me buy them.

I thought it was a Miata MX-5
All kidding aside Porsches are great cars. Comes down to YOUR personal preference.

I'd take a Miata over a Boxster any day of the week. Mod the Miata into a little monster that could destroy the Boxster and pocket a ton cash still.

The Mazda Miata is a great value.

I have really never had a desire to own a Porsche. For me the choice would be easy - go with the Vette.

I did not even consider another car because I "LUSTED" for a C7.
That said, if I had considered another car it would have been the 550hp V8 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe, not a Porsche 718.

Like many have said above, get the car you want and not the car other people want you to get. I too cross-shopped the C7 with a Porsche Cayman S. They both are fantastic cars in their own rights. One is a loud, superhero, look at me speeding bullet. The other is a more refined, delicate and the ultimate canyon carver. It really depends on what you are looking for. In the end, I knew my calling was the C7 as I kept having dreams about it (), but not once has the Cayman ever popped up.
It's a great dilemma to have, and in the end, just get the one that moves you. Otherwise, you will always be wondering "what if..."

Driven both the Cayman GTS and C7 Z51 (Exotics Racing and Ron Fellows), but don't own either.
IMO, the two are very different in feel, and if possible you should try and drive them to see how they make you feel. Here are the things I would be considering:
1. To me, the Vette felt more visceral, even when going slow. The V8 rumble, styling, interior, to me all combined to make the car feel special. The GTS was an excellent vehicle, and felt extremely controllable on track, but the interior (while extremely high quality) was a bit boring and business like. The PDK was faster than a stick shift, but not as much fun, the engine sound was good, but I like the V8 rumble better.
2. Sound. The turbo 4 will have a tough time sounding as good as the V8 IMO.
3. PDK VS. A8 - If you want an automatic, the PDK is the way to go
The handling of both cars was very good. The Cayman was unflappable, while the Z51 was easy to rotate while trail braking or under power. The C7 felt more lively to me, but I also spend quite a bit more time with it.
Overall I would prefer the C7, because I am more interested in the visceral nature of the car, rather than the refinement. Others may appreciate the things the Porsche does better. Maybe be like the person above and just get both!

Get the vette . Most likely the porsche has the fuel tank in that model at the driver and passengers feet with engine in the rear of car just waiting for you to hit something head on or with enough force to rupture the tank and incinerate the driver and passenger to a crisp. some recent porsche fuel tank fires actor paul walker and friend ,Ryan dunn .All died when they hit things with there porsche in front of car and might be alive today if the fuel tank wasnt where porsche put it in car .

In 2006 I bought what was my 39th (and supposed to be my last Porsche) a 997S cab, and proceeded to take it apart (fastest warranty void ever for me) and rebuild it. It cost more than its 104K sticker price to build and many parts are one offs. Porsche dealers call it a kit car (since so many original parts are missing), it weighs just a bit more than my Abarth, Supercharged to about 575hp and has no traction controls, so only comes out when the weather allows it to. I did end up getting to #40 a Panamera 4S, and I have owned a few corvettes before this one. I have always believed no car is perfect from the factory no matter what brand (my 04 Gallardo was turned to RWD AWD made the car fell like a Toyota pickup truck) but calling the boxster a girls car only means you have never really driven one the way it should be driven. There is a reason so much praise has been bestowed on it. I guess you could say I am not brand loyal I just like cars, mostly because I like to change them.

Take a real good look at both cars and the style. You have to be blind not to see the C7 is the most beautiful car compared to anything on the road today. Never mind that it also a blast to drive. If you have to ask which one to buy? Something is wrong!

Porsche handling is legendary. Build quality and reliability is exceptional. Design is evolutionary rather than dramatic but what you don't see is refined and improved with every update. It has it's shortcomings like all cars. But if you love it buy it
