Porsche 718 or Corvette
The Porsche 718 was announced a few days ago and I immediately fell in love
It will release in June, around the same time as a 2017 c7 and it will be the same time I make my final decision
I can't decide between the two

Great problem to have.
I know Porsche makes great cars. But the problem for me has always been that, for the last XX years, they all look remarkably the same. Hard to tell various models and years apart in many ways (including this one) and that has always left me cold.
Good luck.

I went to our club Corvette dealer he gave me one for a day and the performance is just as great as the S or better. The C7 is more comparable to the 911 for size and has enough pace to store enough bags for a trip.
It would have cost a lot moe for a smaller car. As much as I wanted a porsche it was not worth it. Hey, who just won the the Rolex 24 Hr race Corvette 1&2.

Cost? Power?

Good Luck! The 718 is a BOXSTER that is now turbo charged. If you're interested in a Porsche, do a Cayman or a 911. (The Cayman GT 4 is awesome)
Porsche is going to lower displacement and turbo charge virtually all their cars. The mid life change to the 991 is resulting in the same lower displacement and turbo charged motor. This will produce more power and better power to weight but it takes away from how this Marque made it's MARK.
Frankly, I think turbo-charging their whole line is sacrilegious. (God, I hope they don't do this to the GT 3) I've owned 4 Porsche's over the years and was between a 991.2 S and my C 7, Z 51, 3 LT. THERE IS NO BETTER BANG FOR THE BUCK THAN A C 7, IMHO, and is exactly why I ended up with my Vette. (had a 01 C5 previously)
Don't take this is the wrong way. Porsche is a GREAT CAR ------------------- but so is the Corvette. Just depends on what floats your boat!

Have had 4 Porsches in my time, but the last 7 years or so they do nothing for me. I love the raw power of the Vette, the looks and the bottom line price.

I assume it's the new BOXSTER. They showed a Cayman GTS competing on Top Gear against the Z51 Euro spec and the vette beat it
1:19 to 1:21 around their runway. I think it had 330 HP.
1:You WILL PAY more...
Porsche really hoses you on the options. To get a Comparable car on par with a 3LT, you will probably have to spend $20K ( 3LT is 10K here in Canada)
2: Maintenance will COST you big
3: but there is BRAND recognition...
Don't get me wrong.. it's a beautiful precise car but because it's NEW, you will have to pay the full POP and wait a long time to get one.
Probably less reliable as well since it's NEW, C7 now has the benefit of 3 years of production and has only improved...
BEST to go to a Porsche dealer and see how they treat you and what they can do for you....that might tell you all you need to know....

IMHO, buy the one you want, not the one that's available the soonest. Make the move that has no regrets.
As for me, I considered a Porsche briefly a while back. Then a Boxter wanted to tangle with me out on route 70 when I had the 04 C5 base coupe. Geez I blew the guys doors off, I mean really bad. I have no doubt newer versions are faster, but then, I moved to a C7.

It's hard to say what is best. If you want a convertible it seems to reason "SPEED" isn't your overall requirement. I mean, I'm sure the Porsche isn't going to be a slouch either, and will offer potentially some feeling of compactness and precision the Corvette might not. That forward picture is really vastly different, where Corvette present a lot of structure in front and Porsches make you feel like the road is at your toes.
It really depends on purpose of use and how much power really means to you. Clearly there is more maintenance involved to maintain resale value on the Porsche vs Corvette. Porsche also has a bit trendier, younger demographics, so public perception may be of some value.
Really hard to make the call. I suggest you drive both before making a decision.

You know man I love vettes and I like Porsches too. Have you ever drove a boxster? they corner exceptionally well. I mean a boxster doesn't have the hp the vette has but I wouldn't call it a stupid little boxster either. The car is fun.

I put more than 300,000 miles on Porsches back in the '60s.... I now have more than 600,000 miles on Corvettes - last 26 years. It's always wonderful to have a choice of really great cars. Buy the one you really really want - don't listen to the nay sayers - your car, your money, your life.....
